I ordered a VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K 2-Channel Dash Cam with GPS on a Friday, and then revised my order the next day to add a couple of fuse taps to make the hardwire installation easier. Katrina contacted me on the following Monday to let me know that the Essential BlackboxMyCar Install Package included the taps, was on sale, and was a cheaper option than buying the fuse taps alone. Now that’s service! I received the complete package 2 days later, and had it installed less than a week after I had ordered it. The high number of good reviews about BlackboxMyCar are well deserved!
I am impressed with the video quality of the Viofo A129. The 4K front camera provides a clear video with good colour balance and clarity (I bought the optional CPL Filter as well), and the 1080p rear camera delivers quality that exceeds what I expected. I’m very satisfied with both. I did test the quality at night, and I think the clarity of the 1080p rear video is actually better than the front 4k at night, although both are very good. That may be due to the CPL filter on the front camera? My vehicle is usually parked in a garage so I wasn’t as concerned about the parking mode or cloud features as some buyers may be, but the parking mode seems to work well.
The installation was very straightforward after watching a few YouTube videos for tips. I highly recommend using fuse taps for a hardwire installation. The front camera is easily detached from the GPS mount so it can be removed from the vehicle easily if desired, but the rear camera can’t be removed if mounted on the supplied sticky mount. My installation was in a hatchback, and I had a little trouble getting the rear camera aligned perfectly, so I replaced the supplied tape with Velcro industrial strength tape (cheap at a hardware store) and bingo, easy to mount the camera and get it oriented correctly! As a bonus, the rear camera can now be easily detached and removed as well.
There is no MicroSD card included with the Viofo A129, so after researching cards I bought a Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 256GB (a U3 V30 card), and it is working perfectly.
There was also a little bonus from Viofo. When I registered the dashcam on their website, my warranty was automatically extended from 1 year to 18 months.
Overall, I’m very happy with the Viofo dashcam, BlackboxMyCar, and a special kudo to Katrina for exceptional customer service!
