Does the A229 Ultra record 4K on both road cameras?
Yes. The front and rear each record 3840 × 2160 at 30FPS using 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensors. This 2CH supplies no cabin camera; the A229 Ultra 3CH adds one.
How is it different from the A229 Pro?
The Ultra increases rear resolution to 4K, compared with the A229 Pro 2CH model’s 2K rear camera. Both front cameras record 4K at 30FPS. Choose according to the rear detail you need and plan storage for the larger files.
Does it record 4K 60FPS or to an SSD?
No. The Ultra records 4K at 30FPS and saves to a microSD card up to 512GB. The A329S 2CH offers a front 4K 60FPS option with HDR off and supports external SSD recording, with different rear resolution and accessory requirements.
Are the memory card and hardwire kit included?
No. Choose a high-endurance microSD card up to 512GB and VIOFO HK4 or VIOFO HK6 for parking power. The front CPL-200 is included; rear CPL-600 and the BTR200 remote are optional.
Which lens filters fit?
The included front filter is CPL-200. The rear camera takes optional CPL-600, not the ordinary A229 Pro rear camera’s CPL-300. Select the exact fit from our VIOFO CPL filters page. Adjust the filter and inspect saved footage to reduce windshield reflections.
Should I choose HK4 or HK6?
Both are supported for parking recording through the GPS mount. Choose HK6 if you want the vehicle-voltage stamp. Connect constant power, ignition and ground correctly, select a suitable cutoff and check the camera’s transition between driving and parking.
How do the three parking modes differ?
Buffered event detection saves 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after detected activity. Time-lapse records continuously at a selected low frame rate without audio. Low-bitrate mode saves continuous video and audio in smaller files. Night Vision is available with 1FPS time-lapse.
Will parking mode run all night?
Not necessarily. Runtime depends on the power source, battery condition, cutoff threshold, temperature and recording settings. The hardwire kit can stop power to protect the vehicle battery. The camera’s supercapacitor is not a battery for extended recording.
Will I receive a parking-impact alert while away?
No. The current parking-impact notification appears on the camera at the next startup, with sound or a spoken prompt if enabled. It is not a remote phone notification. The manual excludes impacts within three minutes of entering or leaving parking mode from protected event recordings to reduce false alerts.
What does parking geofencing do?
You can set up to three areas where the camera powers off instead of entering parking recording, such as a private garage. Outside those zones, or with weak or lost GPS reception, it enters parking mode. Test the locations and settings before relying on them.
How many files does privacy mode keep?
Privacy mode retains only the latest 4 ordinary files for this 2-channel setup. Leave it off if you need the normal recording history. Export important recordings before changing settings or formatting the card.
Can I download video directly to my phone by cable?
Yes, with a supported USB-C phone and USB 2.0 Type-C to Type-C data cable. VIOFO specifies 5V / 2A output support and reports up to 20MB/s on supported iPhones. Compatibility and transfer speed vary; USB-C alone does not establish support. Use local Wi-Fi or a card reader if your phone does not support the wired method.
Does Wi-Fi provide remote monitoring?
No. Built-in 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi connect a nearby phone for setup and file access. The Ultra has no LTE modem or cloud service for remote viewing, live vehicle tracking or parking push alerts. GPS information belongs to saved recordings.
Which voice languages work?
Commands support English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese. Other interface languages use English commands. Spoken status notifications are separate. Use the camera’s buttons or an optional BTR200 remote if voice control is unsuitable in your vehicle.
How do I update the Ultra?
Use the A229 Ultra firmware page. FWA229U.bin is for the front, and the Ultra-specific EthcamTxFW file is for the rear. Pro, Plus and Tele files are not substitutes. Back up recordings and settings, maintain stable power and follow the exact instructions. Current front updates reset settings and advise against downgrading.
