Get the basic tools and assorted fuse taps for a dash cam or battery-pack hardwire installation in one package. Both options include a circuit tester, trim tool, two zip ties and two decals. Choose four or eight standard fuse taps according to the connections your installation needs.

For Battery Pack: one of each fuse style

This option includes four taps: one each of Low-Profile Mini, Mini, Micro2 and ATO, with a supplied fuse for each. Many battery-pack installations use one switched charging connection, so choose the correct style from the assortment rather than installing every tap.

For a battery such as the PowerCell 8, use its specified input cable, circuit and fuse protection. The package does not replace the battery’s charging cable or its output connection to the dash cam. Check which wiring accessories are already included with your battery before adding more parts.

For Dash Cam: two of each fuse style

This option includes eight taps, two of each standard style, alongside the same installation tools. A three-wire lead such as the BlackVue three-wire hardwire cable or VIOFO HK6 normally needs separate constant and switched connections plus ground. Use the hardwire cable’s labels and instructions; wire colours are not consistent across brands.

The supplied standard fuses are 20A. Match the installed fuse to the accessory, wiring and tap requirements instead of assuming that the included rating is correct. Preserve the vehicle’s specified original fuse rating. Micro3 taps are not in either package; the BlackboxMyCar Add-A-Fuse Kit offers a separate Micro3 pair.

The tester helps identify circuit behavior, the trim tool helps work around suitable panels, and the zip ties secure loose wiring. Follow vehicle-specific trim and airbag guidance and keep leads clear of controls. Test driving and parking operation after installation.

What changes between the two options?

The fuse-tap quantity changes. For Battery Pack has four taps and four supplied fuses; For Dash Cam has eight taps and eight supplied fuses. Both include the same tester, trim tool, two zip ties and two decals.

Does it include a dash cam hardwire cable?

No. Choose the correct lead for the camera separately. This kit supplies installation tools and fuse taps, not the camera-specific power connection or voltage controller.

Are add-a-fuses and fuse taps two separate accessories?

Those terms refer to the same tap assembly here. Each standard tap has a supplied fuse. The dash-cam option contains eight taps total, not sixteen; the battery-pack option contains four.

Can I use the included 20A fuse for any dash cam?

No. The installed rating must suit the accessory circuit, wiring and fuse tap. Follow the device and vehicle requirements, which may call for a lower-rated fuse. Do not increase an original vehicle fuse to 20A just because it is supplied.

Does the kit fit a Micro3 fuse box?

Micro3 taps are not included. Verify the exact slot type and obtain the appropriate Micro3 taps separately. Micro2 and Micro3 are not interchangeable.

Does a battery-pack installation need all four taps?

Usually only the tap that fits the selected switched charging circuit is used. The assortment provides choices of physical style. Your battery’s instructions determine the actual wiring and fuse requirements.

Will these tools prevent trim or airbag damage?

No tool can guarantee that. Follow the vehicle’s trim-removal and airbag-routing instructions, avoid forcing panels, and have an installer handle uncertain areas.

What if I already own the installation tools?

The separate Add-A-Fuse Kit supplies the tap options without this tool package. Check the fuse types and existing supplies before buying duplicates.

What else should I check before ordering?

Only the selected package is supplied. Installation tools and fuse taps only; the camera-specific hardwire cable or battery charging cable is separate.

Made hardwiring easier

Made the hardwiring process easier. The tool made it easier to determine where to plug in the wires. I'm glad it bought so didn't have to go to the store to buy fuse taps and a bunch of extra fuses that I won't need. Definitely worth the money. Worked well with my Hyundai Tucson.

F-150 owners beware

2021 F-150 powerboost owner here. The fuses don't fit without YOU having to modify them. Have to file them down. Micro2. The tools were great though with the whole kit. Going to test these on my 2020 stinger to see if they are a direct fit.

wrong fuses in the dashcam kit

The Essential BlackboxMyCar Install Package packs heavy-duty 20A (Yellow) fuses. Using a 20A fuse means the circuit will allow massive electrical currents to pass through before blowing. If a wire pinches or short-circuits, a 20A fuse will not blow fast enough, which can melt the thin Viofo power cable or damage the camera. After I spent so much money on this setup, now I have to go to the dealership to buy 5A fuses.

The included fuses are part of the install package we have supplied for many dash cam setups over the years, and we have not found the kit itself to be unsafe when installed correctly. The add-a-fuse setup is intended to protect the tapped vehicle circuit while allowing the dash cam hardwire kit to operate as designed.

That said, if you prefer to use a lower-rated fuse for your specific setup, you can purchase a compatible 5A fuse from most automotive parts or hardware stores. There should be no need to visit a dealership.

Cheap clone - Buy official add-a-fuse / circuit kit instead.

Cheap add-a-fuse clone that barely fits snug inside the fusebox for the low profile fuses.
Fuses provided are 20AMPs which is way excessive (recommended 2 amps). If you have a blackvue unit, get the official blackvue hardwiring kit. I bought one off amazone. Quality was WAY better.

Most of what you need

If you aren’t sure exactly what you need for an install this is definitely a good thing to purchase. The only issue I had was that the fuses included are all 20 amp which is way too high for installing a dashcam. Still a decent purchase.

Fittings were off

Wasn’t able to get any of the fuses to fit into their respective adapters. I’m not sure if I got a bad batch or if I did something incorrectly but I spent way too much time trying to simply insert the fuses into their correct adapters and they just refused to go in.
I ordered a different set from elsewhere to compare how everything fit.

Useful parts

The wedge tool for lifting seals and inserting cable was the best part. The tester was useful and the others parts were just incase I needed more. But I would buy these parts again with any install

High quality

Wrong Size and Too High Amp Rating

This kit, despite being close to $30 on sale, did not work in the slightest. First, the taps sockets are too wide to fit into my fusebox. I don't exactly drive an out of the ordinary car - I drive a Crosstrek, one of the most common cars in the country. I've read other reviews of people having to file down the socket to fit. But my question is, how in the world are these the wrong size for a standard sized fuse slot? The point of buying a $30 installation kit is that everything should be ready to work out of the box. I don't mind having to crimp or solder wires together, but these are genuinely the wrong parts. Not to mention, the crimping sockets are way too big for the tiny wires included in the hardwire kit. There's no way you'll get a good, secure connection with this type of fit.

Second, the installation guides listed on the website explicitly state that when wiring a camera into your fusebox, you should use a fuse of equal or lesser value than the fuse you are tapping into. So in theory, if I'm following the advice of the guide and tapping into things like my mirrors and cigarette lighter, all of which are between 7.5 and 15 Amps, how does it make sense that the only fuses included in the kit are all 20 Amps? Not only does this contradict with the posted guides and instructions, but a 20 Amp fuse does nothing to protect a camera that draws less than 2 Amps.

This kit is a waste of money. Save yourself the headache and buy the fuses and taps from an autoparts store. You'll thank yourself later. I'm meanwhile going to hope that Black Box gives me a refund for this kit.
