Design

Just like the Cellink NEO, the BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery is enclosed in a metal casing with a brushed aluminum finish, giving it an overall premium look and feel. Sized at 144mm x 212mm x 30mm, it sports a thinner and slimmer design, making it easier to pack and hide away under seats and into tighter spaces. If you’re new to dash cam battery packs you may find the BI-750 Battery rather heavy. But in fact, it weighs virtually the same as the Cellink NEO and the BlackVue B-124X.

Now, let’s take a look at the panel side of the BI-750 and do a quick comparison of the panel side of the Cellink NEO and the BlackVue B-124X battery packs.

As you can see, the panels look pretty similar, each with output and input ports, a power switch, and an extension battery port. The BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery comes with 2 USB ports, while the BlackVue B-124X has one and the Cellink NEO none.

The “ACC IN” on the BI-750 Battery is where you will plug in the battery pack’s hardwiring cable (the other end of the cable will be hooked to your car’s fuse panel or a 12V power socket). The “OUT” is where you will connect the battery pack to the dash cam.

Just by looking at the panels, the BlackVue Power Magic Ultra Battery B-124X does a better job at labelling their ports and switches. “Dash Cam” is where you connect your dash cam to and “DC IN” is where the battery pack connects to a power source. It takes out all the guesswork, especially on the power switch. On the B-124X, there’s the Cigarette for the 12V power option, Hardwire for the hardwiring option, as supposed to H and L on the BI-750 Battery and the Cellink NEO Battery.

Now, there is another port on the BI-750 Battery that you can use to hook up the battery pack to a power source - the CAR BAT port. This port is only used if you are hooking up your BI-750 directly to your car’s battery using the optional fuse block.

Power Capacity

The BlackboxMyCar BI-750 is a 96Wh/7500mAh battery pack, which is 25% more powerful than the Cellink NEO or the BlackVue B-124X. So, in theory, we should get up to 25% longer runtime with the BI-750.

Powering Options for the BI-750

This refers to how the BlackboxMyCar BI-750 recharges itself and there are a few options available:

1. Using the 12V Power Cable

All you need to do is connect the BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery to a 12V power outlet in your vehicle using the 12V Power Cable.

  1. Connect the yellow connector end of the 12V power cable into the ACC IN port of the BI-750 Battery Pack
  2. Plug the cigarette socket end of the power cable into a 12V power outlet in your vehicle
  3. Flick the power switch on to L

Once the battery pack switches on, you will see the LED indicators light up. While this setup is quick and easy, it does take longer for the battery pack to get a full charge. The maximum charging current with the 12V power cable is 5 amp, so you're looking at anywhere between 80 to 100 minutes for a full charge.

This setup is perfect if your daily commute is typically long enough for the battery pack to acquire a significant charge.

2. Using the ACC Hardwiring Cable

If your drives are typically shorter, then you might want to use the hardwiring option to power your BlackboxMyCar BI-750.

You will notice that the hardwiring cable that comes with your BI-750 Battery has two ACC wires: ACC1 and ACC2 - this means you have the option to connect 1 ACC wire or both ACC wires simultaneously.

If you are using just the ACC1 wire, then you will be using the Single-Charge mode. The maximum charging current is 6 amps and it will take about 80 minutes for a full charge.

If you are using both ACC 1 and ACC2, you will have what's called the Dual-Charge mode. This option allows you to connect to two separate ignition circuits in your vehicle's fuse box for speed up the charging time. The maximum charging current is 12 amps and will take about 50 minutes for a full charge.

  1. Connect the yellow connector end of the ACC Hardwiring Cable into the ACC IN port of the BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery
  2. Locate an ACC fuse on your vehicle's fuse panel and connect the ACC1 wire to it. If you are using both ACC1 and ACC2, simply locate two ACC fuse slots in the fuse panel and connect the ACC wires to them
  3. Flick the power switch on to H

Once the battery pack switches on, you will see the LED indicators light up. Please note that, if you do not want to use the ACC2 wire, you will need to wrap the exposed wiring with electrical tape. From here, you can just let the wire dangle freely without issue.

3. Using the Car Battery Cable and Fuse Block

Say a 50-min charging time is still not fast enough for you, then what you need to do is connect the BI-750 battery pack directly to your vehicle's battery.

This setup requires the optional Car Battery Cable and Fuse Block that you will need to purchase from us separately.

  1. The B+ wire connects to the Fuse Block
  2. Connect the Fuse Block to your car battery's positive terminal
  3. Connect the Red ACC wire to an ignition 12V
  4. Connect the Ground wire to a good grounding spot
  5. Plug the orange connector into the CAR BAT port on the BI-750 battery pack

The Battery Manager App

Just like the Cellink NEO Battery, the BlackVue Power Magic Ultra Battery B-124X, and the Thinkware iVOLT, the BI-750 also comes with a battery manager mobile app that lets you control the settings and monitor the status of the battery pack. The app is available from the App Store and the Google Play Store.

The BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery has built-in Bluetooth so once you've installed the app on your smartphone, open it and it will automatically scan for your BI-750 Battery via Bluetooth.

Alternatively, you can also use the app to scan the barcode that's printed on the product label on the BI-750 battery itself or you can manually input the product ID to connect the app with the battery.

Using the Battery Manager app, you can quickly see your BI-750 Battery's charge level, charging mode, battery temperature and other stats and settings. If you want to make changes to settings, simply tap on the Settings icon on the top right corner of the screen to open the Settings menu.

The settings options are pretty straightforward and you can refer to the BI-750 Battery Pack App Guide. But we would like to bring your attention to three of them.

1. Dual Charger

If you are using the dual-charging mode, you will need to enable this setting on the app.

2. Low Voltage Stop

The low voltage stop setting is a car battery voltage protection feature. In the event that the car battery drops under the threshold, the BI-750 will stop charging.

There are three settings options. N, which stands for "Normal", is the default setting and the cutoff voltage threshold is 10V. L stands for "Low" and the cutoff voltage threshold is 9.5V. The cutoff voltage threshold for the H, or "High", setting is 10.5V.

3. SMART CHG

Smart Charging is a feature that the BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery uses to protect itself from overheating while charging. When you have enabled this setting, the BI-750 Battery will automatically stop charging if the temperature of the battery pack goes above 72°C. If you are using dual-charging mode, the BI-750 Battery will automatically switch to single-charge mode if the temperature reaches 60°C or above. Charging will be put on hold until the BI-750 Battery detects that the temperature has fallen to within safe operating range of -10°C to 70°C. You can also set the cutoff threshold based on input voltage, and you can fill all these information inside the BI-750 Battery Pack App Guide.

Changing Password

If you are planning on changing the battery password, you will need to enter the default password '0000' when prompted for the old password.

Note: There is no password retrieval or reset function. Password reset is a function that can only be performed by technicians at the manufacturer. The Reset function within the Battery Manager App is for resetting the default battery settings (ie. the Dual Charger setting) only and will not reset the password back to the default "0000".

Because of this, we strongly recommend that you don't change the password unless you absolutely needed to, and if you do change it, make sure to keep a record of the new password. Once you have changed the password, you will be asked to re-enter it every time you access the Settings menu within the Battery Manager App.

Doubling the Power with the BE-750 Extension Battery Pack

Just like the Cellink NEO Battery and the BlackVue Power Magic Ultra Battery B-124X, you can double, triple and even quadruple the power and parking mode runtime of your BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery with the BE-750 Extended Battery Pack.

The BE-750 Extended Battery is a 7500mAh battery pack that is designed to work specifically with the BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery. In other words, the BE-750 Extended Battery will only work with the BI-750.

So, how much more power will you get with the BI-750 Battery + a BE-750 Extended Battery combo?

As you can see, the BI-750 Battery plus the BE-750 Extended Battery Pack gives you way more power than the Cellink NEO or the BlackVue B-124X battery with their extension battery packs. Yes, when you pair a Cellink NEO with a NEO Extension Battery Pack, you're more than doubling the total power capacity, but the overall total power capacity is still lower than that of a BlackboxMyCar BI-750 Battery and a BE-750 Extension Battery combined.
