Thinkware Hardwiring Kit

The Thinkware Hardwiring Kit is designed for Thinkware dash cams. For more detailed instructions on how to use a Hardwiring kit, check out our general Hardwiring to a Fusebox guide.

For all the tools you need to properly hardwire your dash cam into your vehicle, we recommend purchasing the Essential BlackboxMyCar Install Package.

By installing a dash cam using a Hardwiring Kit, you will gain access to features including Parking Mode.

If the optional Add-a-Fuse Kits are purchased, the types of are: Low profile, Mini, Micro 2, and ATO. For detailed information on how to use Add-a-Fuses, check out our Add-a-Fuse Setup Guide.

Cable Length/ Vehicle Compatibility (4m/13ft)

Please note that certain makes/models of vehicles have fuseboxes that are placed further from the front of the vehicle than normal, such as many BMW vehicles, placing the fusebox in the trunk. This may require an extended hardwiring kit, please measure out the route you plan to run the cable before purchasing. A longer Thinkware Hardwire Kit can be found here.

What is Parking Mode?

Parking mode is offered on most of the dash cams available at BlackboxMyCar. While it is important to protect your vehicle while driving, it is just as important to have your vehicle protected while it is parked. When the dash cam is in parking mode, footage will only be saved when there is an impact and/or motion. Parking mode can be enabled with a hardwiring kit or a battery pack.

What is a Hardwire Kit?

A hardwiring kit enables parking mode. It allows your dash cam to remain powered on even when the vehicle's ignition is turned off. Installation is a breeze as you will only need to find an accessory fuse, constant fuse, and a grounding point.

What is a Battery Pack?

Most customers purchase the battery pack to avoid using the vehicle’s battery to power their dash cam. The battery pack is charged by either being hardwired into an accessory fuse or by being plugged into one of the vehicle's 12-volt cigarette sockets. We recommend the hardwiring the battery pack as it charges the battery pack quicker.

How much footage will my memory card store?

On average, a 2-channel dash cam writes 16GB/hour and a 1-channel dash cam writes about 8GB/hour.

Do I need a Rear Camera?

Accidents or events don't always happen at the front of the vehicle! Having a rear camera provides coverage for any events or accidents that may happen at the rear of the vehicle.

Do I need a IR Rear Camera?

An IR camera is designed to record the interior of the vehicle in low light conditions. This option is very popular among rideshare drivers.

What is a CPL filter?

A CPL filter attaches to the dash cam lens to eliminate lens flares, light reflections, and windshield glares.

This hard wire kit has made it possible to take advantage of the parking mode monitor on my fa200 that came with the cigarette lighter power cord. Super simple, 12v constant power, 12v ignition power and ground! That’s it your done.

Hardwire kit

got my cams installed last week and upon first review the only "issue" I can see is while in parking mode anytime I close the door it registers it as an impact but that may just be my settings set to "mid" may play around with the settings.

Hi Christopher, unfortunately, the dash cam does register that as an 'impact'. That's just the sensitivity of the dash cam! We're confident that you'll get used to it :)

Thinkware Hardwire Kit wasn’t not long enough to reach the fusebox in my M235i. Justin and his team spliced/extended the cable, adding an add-a-fuse solution to my kit, making my setup not only easier to install but a lot cleaner as well. Was in and out of the shop in 10 minutes.

The Thinkware hardwire kit is fine. I was able to install it on my Mazda CX-5 without any issues. Unfortunately one of the the Add-a-Fuse pigtails keeps falling out of the fuse holder. I’ve tried electrical tape, which didn’t hold, so I’ll have to try something else. As of now, I have a dead dash cam.

One thing I am concerned about when you wrap the wire around the fuse leg. H ow do you know which is the hot leg. If you use the hot leg then there is nonuse protection at all for the camera. If you use the other leg then the camera is protected by the fuse and then the protection is small as these fuses are probably rated at anything up to,say, 30 amps. Surely it is far better to piggyback a second fuse ( add a fuse) rated at 3-5 amps?
