Viofo A119 Review
The Viofo A119 is an entry-level Chinese-made dash cam that manages to host a list of impressive qualities that makes it a very worthy top contender in the more affordable dash cam market.
In terms of video quality, the A119 boasts a max resolution of 2560x1440 pixels @ 30fps with a very high recording bitrate of 20 Megabits per second. Coupled with an advanced video processor (Novatek NT96660) and image sensor (Omnivision 0V4689), these statistics translate directly to excellent video recording quality during both day and night time. Indeed, the A119 gives close to crystal clear images with great dynamic range and very capable night time recording.
The design of the Viofo A119 is small, measuring less than 3.5 inches in height and 2 inches in width. This makes the dash cam very discreet from the outside of the vehicle and has a sleek form factor when mounted on the windshield. With a 2” LCD screen that offers users the ability to change settings and view videos right from the device itself. A very unique feature of the A119 is its ability to adjust the lens both vertically and horizontally, the latter of which is found only in very select dash cams. This means that even accidents that occur to the side of the vehicle can be captured by this dash cam by simply tilting the lens to the left or right. Furthermore, with an aperture of f/1.8, wide angle view of 160 degrees and internal capacitor system, the A119 will capture video footage on the road without issue.
There has been a surge in production of entry-level dash cams that offer great video quality and features in the dash cam market recently, such as the Thinkware F50 and the XiaoYi Smart Dash Camera, but the Viofo A119 confidently stands out as a very capable device. In short, the Viofo A119 packs very impressive video quality in a small and compact exterior housing and, with a price point of about $110 USD, the value of the A119 is undeniable.
