A Simple Alternative to the Traditional Hardwire Installation Method
The BlackVue Power Magic EZ is an OBD cable which allows BlackVue dash cams to be connected to the vehicle’s OBD port and still offer parking-mode recording with voltage cutoff protection. This eliminates the need for a traditional hardwire method to the vehicle’s fusebox using the Power Magic Pro or via a dash cam battery pack. The BlackVue Power Magiz EZ is only compatible with older, S series BlackVue cameras. Curious if your camera is compatible? Contact us!
The BlackVue Power Magic EZ has been discontinued by BlackVue. There are currently no plans for releasing a new version of this cable.
OBD ports in vehicles are typically much more accessible and easier to install, thus making this a true plug-and-play system. Simply find your vehicle’s OBD port and connect the OBD cable to your BlackVue dash cam. The most common places for OBD ports in a vehicle is to the left of the steering wheel and underneath the dashboard. There may be a latch or cover that you need to remove/lift in order to access the port.
After connecting the OBD cable, the voltage cutoff settings can be adjusted on the Power Magic EZ itself via the white tabs on its side. Here's a diagram that shows the voltage and timer cutoff levels. You have the option of selecting:
A timer can be set for 6/12/24/36/48/72/120 hours. You will also have the option of setting this at infinity, which will allow you to get the maximum amount of parking mode as there is no predetermined time restriction. However, the power will be cut as soon as the battery’s voltage drops below the low voltage cut-off threshold regardless of the timer setting.
Just like the BlackVue Power Magic Pro, you can toggle parking mode on/off with the flip of a switch:
Dash cam will be powered when the vehicle is off, until the low voltage cut-off or the timer cut-off limit is reached.
Dash cam will not be powered when the vehicle is off.
