How long is this cable?
It is 3m total, approximately 10ft. Measure the route around the windscreen and trim to the actual fuse panel, rather than measuring a straight line.
Is the extended cable a splice added by BlackboxMyCar?
Thinkware also manufactures a separate 7m cable. This US listing supplies the standard 3m cable. Ask us about the correct longer cable before ordering; the VIOFO extended cables in our US store do not fit Thinkware cameras.
Will this work with the Thinkware F790 or F550?
No. These models require their own compatible power connection. Check the camera model and connector before ordering.
Does this cable work with VIOFO or BlackVue cameras?
No. It has a Thinkware camera power connector. Similar-looking wires or a shared parking-mode feature do not make other brands compatible.
Are fuse taps included?
No. The base TW-HK product is the hardwire cable. Add compatible fuse taps separately and match their type to your vehicle.
Which wire goes to constant power?
Follow the BATTERY and ACC labels on the actual leads. BATTERY connects to a verified constant supply, ACC to a verified ignition-switched supply, and ground to a suitable unpainted chassis ground. Thinkware says to use the labels rather than assuming wire colours.
Do I need to enable parking mode in the camera?
Yes. The cable supplies the required connections, but parking mode must also be enabled in the dash cam settings. Available recording modes depend on the camera model.
Does this guarantee recording all night?
No. Runtime depends on the vehicle battery, temperature, camera consumption, voltage cutoff and recording timer. A dedicated dash cam battery pack with the correct Thinkware output connection is an alternative power source; check the installation requirements.
Where do I set the low-voltage cutoff?
Use the battery-protection settings on a supported Thinkware dash cam. Check its manual for the available values and choose a setting appropriate for the vehicle. The hardwire cable does not have a USB-style adjustable cutoff module.
Why does the camera turn off instead of entering parking mode?
Confirm that parking mode is enabled and the BATTERY lead remains powered after the ignition is off. Check the ACC circuit with a tester; some vehicles delay accessory shutdown. Have the installer verify the wiring before changing connections.
Can I use the cigarette-lighter cable for the same parking features?
The standard Thinkware cigarette-lighter cable powers continuous driving recording and lacks the ACC signal used for automatic parking operation. Use the compatible hardwire setup or another parking-power option specified for the camera.
Can I install it myself?
Thinkware recommends professional installation. The job requires identifying suitable circuits, choosing the correct fuse taps and routing the cable safely. Read the fuse-box hardwiring guide before deciding whether to arrange an installer.
