BlackVue USB-C And OBD-II Power Cables

Match USBC-3P or BOC-300 to your camera, vehicle and parking needs

Choose the connection around your parking needs

We would start with one question: do you need recording while parked? The USBC-3P uses a verified USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 source for a compatible camera. Treat it as a driving-power option unless BlackVue confirms Parking Mode for your exact camera, cable and source. The BOC-300 offers an OBD-II connection for compatible camera and vehicle combinations, including supported parking operation without tapping the fuse box.

Both cables connect to the camera's DC-in port. They solve different vehicle-side power problems. A USB-C-shaped port or an OBD-II socket that looks right is only the start of the compatibility check.

Browse our BlackVue dash cams separately from these cable instructions. Your full model, channel configuration and vehicle matter more than a shared series name.

USB-C PD 3.0 to DC

USBC-3P connects a USB-C PD 3.0 source to a compatible camera's DC-in port.

BlackVue USB-C PD 3.0 cable: USBC-3P

The USBC-3P takes power from a USB-C source that supports Power Delivery 3.0 and delivers it to a supported BlackVue camera's DC-in port. It does not mean the camera itself has a USB-C power input.

BlackVue lists a 4.5 m (14.76 ft) cable, a 3.5 × 1.1 mm DC plug and a maximum output of 3 A at 12 V (36 W). Those are cable specifications, not measured camera consumption or a promise of the voltage your port will negotiate.

Match the parking-power instructions to your camera. BlackVue’s DR970X Plus Series II installation guide says its USB-C setup does not support Parking Mode. For another camera, confirm the exact cable, power source and firmware with BlackVue. A compatible BOC-300, hardwiring connection or dedicated dash cam battery may suit your parked-recording needs.

Check the USB-C port and adapter

Check the source before connecting

  1. Confirm the exact camera model and channel configuration against the USBC-3P instructions.
  2. Check the vehicle manual or port specification for USB Power Delivery 3.0. BlackVue mentions a lightning-bolt marking, but port shape alone does not prove support.
  3. Connect the USB-C end to the verified source and the DC end to the camera's DC-in port. Follow the vehicle-specific routing instructions.
  4. Start the vehicle and confirm that the camera powers on and records normally before you drive.

If you need an adapter

BlackVue specifies a Type-C adapter supporting PD 3.0 when the vehicle lacks the required port. Its cable FAQ says maximum output is 5 V with an adapter, while the cable specification lists a 12 V maximum. Confirm the exact adapter and camera pairing with BlackVue; these statements do not establish a universal negotiated output. An adapter is a separate compatibility check, including its physical fit if you use a battery-pack socket.

If the camera has no power or reboots, check the exact-model cable FAQ with support. It notes multi-adapter issues and possible camera firmware or DR590X MICOM requirements. Do not apply another model's update to your camera.

Check the camera, not just the connector

Match the full camera model

For the USB-C cable, the published lists name DR590X, DR770X, DR770X LTE, DR970X Plus and DR970X LTE Plus configurations. Check the detailed model and channel row rather than treating those family names as universal fit.

There is a specific Box Pro discrepancy: the USBC-3P manual includes DR770X Box Pro 1CH, while BlackVue's accessory support table excludes DR770X Box/Box Pro and DR970X Box Plus. We would get written exact-model confirmation before choosing this cable for a Box Pro. Do not substitute a newer generation's instructions to settle that conflict.

Connectivity still belongs to the camera

The cable supplies power. It does not add GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Cloud or LTE to a camera that lacks those features, or change its recording specifications. Check the exact camera and any required accessories separately.

BlackVue OBD-II power cable: BOC-300

The BOC-300 connects a supported BlackVue camera to a compatible vehicle's OBD-II port. We would consider it when you want supported Parking Mode without a fuse tap, provided the exact vehicle and camera checks pass. BlackVue lists a 3 m (9.84 ft) cable and maximum output of 3 A at 12 V (36 W). This is not an instruction to assume every OBD-II port supplies the same voltage.

Published BOC-300 family lists include DR590X, DR750X, DR750X Plus, DR770X, DR770X LTE, DR770X Box, DR900X, DR900X Plus, DR970X, DR970X LTE, DR970X Plus, DR970X LTE Plus and DR970X Box Plus. The manual's detailed table covers a narrower set of configurations, including DR770X Box Pro 1CH and DR970X Box Plus 2CH. Check your full model against the exact cable instructions; a family list is not approval for every variant.

Use the BOC-300 only with compatible BlackVue cameras. Do not connect it to another brand's camera. The instructions here concern BOC-300; later BOC-400 controls and specifications should not be transferred to it.

Manage parked power in the camera

A parked camera can draw from the vehicle battery. On eligible camera models, voltage cutoff and timer protection are camera firmware settings, not an independent cutoff inside the BOC-300. BlackVue says the earlier enabled limit ordinarily ends parking operation, with a documented timer exception for Power Saving mode. Use the instructions for your exact camera and selected mode.

Cutoff settings do not guarantee the condition of the vehicle battery or a successful restart. BlackVue recommends a dedicated Power Magic Battery if you want to avoid drawing from the vehicle battery while parked. We can help you compare a suitable battery setup and its required output cable.

Check vehicle fit and Parking Mode

BlackVue describes compatibility with most vehicles built since 2010 with a standard 16-pin OBD-II port. Check the exact make, model, year and trim. Its BOC-300 instructions identify non-standard ports on some Tesla models and named exceptions including Hyundai Santa Fe (2019-2023), Hyundai Palisade (2019-2022), Mazda CX-5 (2016) and Audi A6 (2023). This is not a claim that every EV fails or every standard-looking socket works.

Find the port in the vehicle manual. Keep the cable clear of pedals, legroom, controls and airbag paths. If the route interferes with any of them, stop and ask a qualified installer for help.

Set up and verify Parking Mode

  1. Confirm that the exact camera and vehicle are compatible with BOC-300.
  2. With the vehicle parked, connect the OBD-II end to the vehicle and the DC lead to the camera. Route it using the vehicle-specific instructions.
  3. Follow BlackVue's BOC-300 vehicle check: the red LED should turn on and stay on with the ignition on, then turn off with the ignition off. This is a compatibility check, not proof that parked camera power is absent when the LED goes out.
  4. In the BlackVue app, select Motion and Impact Detection or Time Lapse Parking Mode as supported by the camera.
  5. Park, switch off the engine and confirm the camera enters the intended mode and records as expected.

Moving to another vehicle

BlackVue gives a BOC-300 reset procedure for a new vehicle. Follow those exact instructions and repeat the compatibility check. A cable working in one vehicle does not establish fit in the next.

Compare the two power connections

For driving recording through a verified PD 3.0 source, check USBC-3P first. For parking coverage, start with the BOC-300 camera and vehicle checks, or discuss a compatible hardwiring or battery option. The maximum cable rating alone cannot answer whether a particular setup will work.

Compatibility notes for both cables

Both cables need the correct camera and vehicle-side power source. Keep the USB-C Box Pro discrepancy and differing BOC-300 family lists as exact-model questions. The DR970X Plus Series II installation guide excludes Parking Mode for its USB-C setup. Its camera and charger details do not establish compatibility for an earlier model.

Questions before you choose

Will this work with any USB-C port?

No. The source must support USB Power Delivery 3.0, and the exact camera must be compatible with USBC-3P. BlackVue's adapter FAQ states 5 V while the cable specification lists a 12 V maximum. Confirm the exact adapter and camera pairing first.

Can USBC-3P power Parking Mode?

Do not assume it does. BlackVue’s DR970X Plus Series II guide excludes Parking Mode for its USB-C setup. For an earlier model, confirm the exact camera, USBC-3P cable, source and firmware with BlackVue. Choose a manufacturer-supported parking-power connection, such as a compatible BOC-300, hardwiring setup or dedicated battery.

Will BOC-300 work with every car made since 2010?

No. BlackVue says most vehicles with a standard 16-pin port, with named exceptions and non-standard ports on some Tesla models. Check the exact vehicle, model year and trim before ordering.

Can I use either cable with another camera brand?

No. These cables are designed for compatible BlackVue cameras. A plug fitting another camera is not evidence of electrical compatibility.

Will BOC-300 affect the vehicle battery?

It can keep a compatible camera powered while parked, so the camera can draw from the vehicle battery. Review eligible camera firmware cutoff and timer settings, including mode-specific exceptions. Consider a suitable dedicated battery setup if you want to avoid that parked draw.

Can I move BOC-300 to another vehicle?

Follow BlackVue's BOC-300 reset procedure and check the new vehicle again. Do not assume the result from the previous vehicle applies.
