BlackboxMyCar Add-A-Fuse Kit

The BlackboxMyCar Add-A-Fuse Kit gives you the fuse taps needed for a cleaner dash cam hardwire installation. It is used when you need to connect a dash cam hardwire kit or dash cam battery pack to the vehicle fuse box.

Choose 2 of Each (for Dash Cam) when your hardwire kit needs both constant and accessory-switched power. Choose 1 of Each (for Battery Pack) when you are hardwiring a battery pack that only needs an ignition-switched source. Choose 2x Micro 3 Fuses only if your vehicle uses Micro 3 blade fuses.

Most dash cam hardwire kits need two fuse connections: constant power and accessory-switched power. That is why the dash cam option includes two of each common fuse tap style.

Battery pack hardwiring usually needs one ignition-switched source, so the battery pack option includes one of each common style. If you want the install tools too, pair this with the Essential BlackboxMyCar Install Package.

Common fuse styles covered

The standard Add-A-Fuse options cover Low Profile, Mini, Micro2, and ATO fuse styles, with 20A fuses included. These are the common fuse tap styles used in many passenger vehicles.

Fuse type is vehicle-specific. Check your owner’s manual, inspect the vehicle fuse box, or confirm with the dealer before choosing a single fuse style. When in doubt, the 1 of Each or 2 of Each options are the safer picks.

Low Profile, Mini, Micro2, and ATO add-a-fuse options

Micro 3 is available separately

Micro 3 add-a-fuses are mainly for newer vehicles that use Micro 3 blade fuses. They can appear in some modern Ford, Chrysler, GM, European, and JDM vehicles.

Because Micro 3 is more niche, it is not included in the 1 of Each or 2 of Each standard kits. Select the Micro 3 option only when you have confirmed your vehicle uses that fuse style.

Add-a-fuses turn one fuse slot into two protected circuits for a cleaner hardwire install. For standard hardwire kits, the yellow wire usually connects to constant power, the red wire connects to ACC/ignition-switched power, and the black wire goes to ground.

Cannot select 2x micro 3 fuse in the browser

Cannot select 2x micro 3 fuses in the browser nor was it available when I purchased this.

My major gripe is

My major gripe is that this kit does not include an option for a mini-3 fuse. I guess my 2023 GMC pickup is "niche and unique". Every GM truck is "niche and unique" as well. So I had to order what was needed (mini-3 add-a-fuse) from Amazon in order to hook up the hardwire kit, I should have skipped this product completely and just ordered what I needed from Amazon.

Thanks for your feedback, Kevin. Just to clarify, the fuse size commonly used in many GM trucks is Micro 3, and we do offer that as a selectable option on this product.

The 2-of-each kit you selected does not include Micro 3 taps, as that fuse style is not commonly used across most vehicles. We also note this on the product listing so customers who need Micro 3 can choose that option separately.

We understand the inconvenience, but the Micro 3 option was available at the time of purchase and is specifically intended for vehicles like your GMC.

frustrating, fuse broke as soon as I pulled it from the adapter. As context, I was going to install it in an empty slot, however the camera was not turning on, as soon as I pulled the fuse to put the car fuse in the right position and the plastic structure of the fuse did not resist

Low Profile Mini cable wasn't a good fit

When installing on my 5G Outback, had issues with the low profile mini - the plastic insert for the low profile wasn't sized properly in the add-a-fuse. So it didn't fit in the fuse holder. Rather than sanding it down, opted to use the mini add-a-fuse instead.

There was no issues with that work around.

Otherwise, documentation, the system, and installation worked great. Going into this, it was actually the part of the installation whcih I didn't worry about at all. It ended up bering a pain but not a show stopper.

Fuse ordering confusing

So I ordered the fuse kit, got the fuse kit, opened it up, attached my dashcam, and poor me didn't verify that I had the right ones before I wired them up to my dashcam wires. Took a fuse out of my fusebox, tried to push it in, wrong fuse holder. Cut of the add a fuses, threw them in the trash, drove to 4 autozones to finally find one that had them in stock, and did it all again. Sometimes time is more important than money.
