VIOFO A129 Pro Duo Front and Rear Dash Cam with GPS

The VIOFO A129 Pro Duo provides 4K 30FPS recording, a 2-inch screen and local dual-band Wi-Fi. The included second camera adds a separate Full HD rear view, and the GPS mount records journey data. Select the recording mode you need, then add a compatible memory card and parking power connection.

Choose the recording mode for your drive

The A129 Pro Duo records 3840 × 2160 at 30FPS with a Sony IMX317 front sensor, an F1.8 lens and a 130° view. Its image processing uses WDR; this is not a STARVIS 2 or HDR camera. The included rear camera uses a Sony STARVIS IMX291 sensor and records 1920 × 1080 at 30FPS.

Keep the lens and windshield clean and review original footage after aiming the camera. An optional VIOFO CPL-100 filter can reduce dashboard reflections. Exposure, motion, distance and glass condition affect what you can read in a clip. The night-driving photograph illustrates the use case; it is not a sample recording from the camera.

Parking recording and its power requirements

Auto Event Detection supports buffered parking recording with current firmware. VIOFO specifies 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after detection. Time-lapse records at a lower frame rate without sound; low-bitrate recording keeps a continuous record with audio in smaller files.

The separately sold VIOFO HK3 Mini-USB hardwire kit provides constant power, an ignition signal and a selectable voltage cutoff. HK4 and HK6 use USB-C and are not direct substitutes for this Mini-USB camera. A dedicated dash cam battery needs the correct output connection and parking signal. Read our parking-mode guide and test a parked recording after installation.

Parking duration depends on power, settings and temperature. The supercapacitor saves the last file when power is interrupted; it is not a battery for ongoing recording.

GPS journey data and usable storage

The included GPS mount adds location, speed and time information to saved recordings when satellite reception is available. It does not provide live tracking. Download footage first and use a compatible player to view the journey alongside the video.

Choose a compatible high-endurance microSD card up to 512GB. Loop recording replaces older ordinary files, so keep a separate copy of incident clips. Format the card in the camera after backing up files and check periodically that both cameras are recording. Turn the camera off before removing the card.

Local Wi-Fi, screen controls and model choice

Connect a nearby phone over 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi for VIOFO app settings, playback and downloads. This is local access: there is no built-in LTE, cloud monitoring or remote parking alert service. You can also operate the camera using its 2-inch screen and physical buttons.

For 2K HDR recording in both directions, compare VIOFO A229 Plus 2CH. Match the camera directions and installation needs as well as the resolution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cameras are included?

This is the A129 Pro Duo front-and-rear road-camera package. The second camera is not an infrared cabin camera, and the kit does not record three directions.

What condition is this unit in?

BlackboxMyCar Outlet products are tested, like new and backed by our in-house 10-point check. This unit includes a 12-month BlackboxMyCar warranty and our normal return policy. See our warranty and Outlet terms.

Is a hardwire kit or memory card included?

No. The car power cable and GPS mount are included, but the hardwire kit, microSD card and CPL filter are separate purchases. Choose the VIOFO HK3 Mini-USB hardwire kit for the correct Mini-USB connection; USB-C HK4 and HK6 kits do not fit directly.

Does parking mode save video from before a trigger?

Yes, with current firmware in Auto Event Detection. VIOFO specifies 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after detection. Time-lapse and low-bitrate are separate modes. Continued recording requires a supported power source and stops when power or a configured limit is reached.

Can I view the camera remotely?

No. Wi-Fi connects to a nearby phone for the VIOFO app. GPS records location and speed with the footage; it is not a live vehicle tracker. This camera does not include LTE or a cloud connection.

Which rear-camera parts fit?

Original A129 Duo/A129 Pro rear camera and cable; not A129 Plus parts. Use those exact-model parts when replacing the supplied rear camera or its cable. A shared connector shape does not establish compatibility.

What memory card capacity should I choose?

The supported maximum is 512GB. Use a compatible high-endurance microSD card and format it in the camera after backing up any recordings. Larger files and additional camera channels use space faster. Copy important clips promptly instead of relying on loop recording to preserve them.

How do I select the correct firmware?

Select A129 Pro Duo when checking the linked manuals and firmware resources. These are separate hardware families; do not install firmware for another A129 model or an IR cabin version. Follow any hardware-specific instructions on the download page, and back up files and settings before updating.

Does A129 Pro have STARVIS 2 or HDR?

No. Its front sensor is Sony IMX317, and its dynamic-range feature is WDR. The Duo rear camera uses Sony STARVIS IMX291. For current 4K front-only HDR and STARVIS 2, compare VIOFO A119M Pro.

Can A129 Pro record 4K at 60FPS?

No. 4K recording is 30FPS. With only the front camera connected, lower-resolution choices include 1440p at 60FPS and 1080p at 120FPS. Select the actual resolution and frame rate in the camera menu.

What else should I check before ordering?

The rear camera records through the rear window. A microSD card, HK3 hardwire kit and CPL filter are sold separately.

Great Camera too much glare wrong angle

This is my third Dash camera. It is the one I like best of all.
Picture is clear and mounting is easy (mounted in SUV- plenty of wire). Connection to phone is super easy and phone of course gives much beter picture.
Annoying -- when monted the screen is tilted upward making it hard to view.
It is difficult to see control buttons.
Solutions: I put small stickers near each button
I put a foam surround around the camera which makes the
screen easir to see.
Recommendations for manufacturer - Screen need to tild down and screen needs to be brighter or supply some type of surround for screen

Bang for the buck 2 channel camera!

After days of reviewing and researching the most cost-effective camera in the market, the clear winner to me is the A129 plus duo!

Setup was straightforward and I was able to hide the wires by just watching youtube videos.

I was taking into account the constant use of the dash cam in different weather situations, especially in the great north and the A129 plus duo is the perfect balance of everything you will need until 4K has become more stable and technology improves.

Reason to avoid the 4k is that it is not stable as there are lots of reports of overheating. You can easily look at the used market and there are SEVERAL returns of the 4K cameras.

Let’s face it, we want to get the clearest possible image and video quality but at this day and age, the technology is still at its infancy stage. 2K would be enough for most situations.

BBMC was very communicative since ordering through their emails and the price was reasonable. I would definitely not hesitate to buy again from them.

Best part was it came with the updated firmware already installed!

Great cam, meh app

Pretty happy with this thing so far. The video quality is solid, definitely more than enough for a dashcam. My only complaint is that the app isn't very good, you have to manually go through the wifi connection each time you want to connect to your phone. It has all the functions you need but it could be a lot snappier and easier to use.

Very Pleased with VIOFO A129 Pro

After watching many you-tube reviews, and reading and comparing, seeing the side-by-side comparison on you-tube was the final push to purchase the more economically priced, Viofo. Was received in a very professional box and internal packaging, was so well put together I am still impressed. I did purchase the additional wiring kit to hard-wire into my vehicle. Everything was there, and works well. After using for a few weeks now, no real issues other than trying to connect via WiFi. After some searching, discovered others suggesting completely turning off mobile on my phone data prior to connecting via WiFi...this definitely solves the connectivity issue (not sure why, it is inconvenient, but it works). Other than that, my biggest gripe is trying to get the MicroSD card in/out with fat fingers, thankfully the unit is easy to remove from the GPS mount, which makes that much easier. Apparently Chevy has also removed switched power from the driver side fuse panel on most Silverados, so again, after some searching, I found a forum that provided an alternative switched supply close to that area where I was able to splice into a wire and put an inline fuse in that way.

Overall very pleased I went with this unit and saved some $$ and got great picture! Will probably purchase another for other vehicle in the near future.

Good product + good service = returning customer

BBMC provides excellent “how to” videos about their quality products. I consider their prices fair, and they ship fast. What makes them stand out however is that they encourage technically challenged prospective buyers like me to contact them with questions. Dash cams can be confusing but knowing that Blackbox is only a phone call or email away has been comforting and appreciated. I just bought my second dash cam bundle from them. If they can continue to bear the cost of providing such comprehensive support, I suspect there will be no limit to their growth.

Hi Eric, thanks for leaving a review and for shopping with us! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Works like a charm

Be sure to buy a fuse tap for 24/7 parking recording and to hide the wire in your car. Great kit with all the cable management clips you need. Measure your spare fuse size and compare online for the right fuse size. New hondas have a low profile mini fuse tap size. Plug into your battery (reclining seat works) and accessory fuse for a good time. Good luck!

Best dash camera.

It's been almost a week since I install the dash camera, so far it's best dash camera on the market, also for those who are buying the dash camera for the first time they will love it. It has a great parking mode. And the great customer service.

Viofo A129 Pro Duo 4K 2 Channel with GPS

Decent price for 4K dash cam. The quality for both front 4K and rear FHD are excellent during the day and night. Nice upgrade from Blackvue DR650GW 2ch that I got for my other vehicle 5 years ago from Alex. The WIFI and GPS works great. I can actually connect it to a tablet and use it as a rear view mirror. However, I notice the "rear camera mirror" view setting is not very consistent. It won't stay that view all the time. It will switch back on it's own. At first, I thought it was the app. Then I tried setting it manually with the dash cam. It worked for a couple days but then it switched back on it's own again. Not sure if this is a common issue but hope it's an easy fix. The GPS works with the tablet as well. I can actually use Google maps without internet connection. Huge bonus cuz I have this installed in my 2004 Honda Pilot that does not have GPS or Rear View Camera. I also purchased the essential kit to install the hardwire kit, which made it a lot easier. I did do some research and confirmed a couple things with Mark. Only thing that was miscommunicated was the fuse type that came with the essential kit. I received the fuse that was for a newer Honda instead for an older Honda. I should of double checked but they made an exception for exchange. Overall, my experience was pretty good but hope the rear camera mirror view setting will be resolved.

Hi there, thanks for shopping with us. Sorry to hear about the minor inconvenience, but I hope the rear mirror issue gets fixed in the next firmware. Let us know if you have any questions in the meantime, but glad you love your VIOFO!

4 days of use... so far so good

Overall, I was very happy with the purchase process and delivery of the my A129 Pro Duo + 3 Wire ACC Hardwire Kit + CPL Filter. The drop in one star has to do with just how thick the USB cable between the rear and front cameras. It's completely workable but the amount of effort it took to route it along the trim in my Civic 2019 was pretty brutal.

In addition to this camera, I bought the necessary fuse taps and with a little learning on BBMC + various youtube videos, I was able to hardwire the camera into my car fusebox on my first try in about 2 hours. I'm quite happy with the overall results. You can't see it but I was able to fit all of the wiring and tie it in place using plastic ties underneath the panel just to the left of the steering wheel.

Quality of the camera and the recordings line up with the reviews provided online. I was able to capture the license plates of a few cars of interest by doing a snapshot of the video and zooming in (takes a few tries sometimes due to blur). Definitely couldn't have pulled that off with my older 1080p dashcam.

Thanks to Zaid for timely responses to my questions about shipping.

Hi Kenneth, thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you were able to get all the instructions you needed through our videos to install your dash cam. It's great to see that it worked out! Ask us anytime if you have any questions.

100% Happy & Satisfied

A Youtube search for recent dashcam reviews led me to a couple by Alex. I liked what I learned about the Viofa A129 Pro and after some back and forth messages with Blackbox answering the few questions I had, I decided on it. The online purchase was smooth and the free shipment was fast. Installation of the hard wiring kit was straightforward with excellent instructions on the website. Customer service as a high priority is very apparent. I'm pleased with the camera's functionality and ease of use. Everything about this purchase has been totally satisfactory. Both the Viofo A129 Pro 4K and BlackboxMyCar get my big thumbs up.

Hi Ron, that's a great looking installation! Looks like you had a really smooth time with it, which is awesome. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions in the future.

Great dash cam view

Second time ordering, the camera replaces the Viofo A129. I did not use the rear camera. Appreciated!

Thanks for your review, Dee! We’re glad to hear the A129 Plus Duo has been a solid replacement for you and that you’re happy with the setup.

Great upgrade from the A129 Pro Duo

The A229 has a bad microphone, this one is the best value for sure. Fair warning if you upgrade from the A129 Pro Duo - you have to swap the cable between the front and rear cameras. For some reason the cables and rear cameras are not compatible despite looking the same and having the same capabilities. Otherwise, easy upgrade and well worth it new! Image quality is fantastic

Thanks for the detailed review, Tommy! We’re glad to hear the A129 Plus Duo has been a worthwhile upgrade for you and that you’re enjoying the image quality and overall value. We also appreciate you sharing the note about the rear camera cable compatibility, as that kind of insight can be really helpful for others planning an upgrade.

Great unit easy install

This unit works as advertised, easy install with provided pry tool to open interior trim seams.
The app works on phone fairly easily just wish it would auto connect each time when app launched rather than having to turn on WiFi on unit each time. It would be better to have a hidden SSID WiFi signal option after initial connection to it so the phone would connect knowing it's there.

Thanks for your review! We’re glad to hear your A129 Plus Duo was easy to install and that you’re happy with how it’s performing. We appreciate your feedback on the app connection and will be sure to pass it along.

Turns on automatically and is Easy to work so far. Totally worth it. Better to have and not need it than to need and not have. I like that I can plug the camera straight into my laptop.

Thanks for the review, Mary! We’re glad to hear your A129 Plus Duo has been easy to use and gives you peace of mind knowing it’s always ready when you need it.

Great camera, but...

The camera does all that I need it to do and I'm happy with my purchase. However, like most technical products, its instruction manual could stand quite a bit more clarification.

Example: There's a setting for FPS but it's not clear if this setting applies to video recording or parking protection. In my case, this resulted in recording essentially time-lapse recordings while driving down the road.

I get that manufacturers don't want to print an encyclopedia-sized volume to include in the box, but initial impressions of their products could be greatly improved if users could make sense of how to configure.

Haven't regretted buying it. Peace of mind.

Good quality camera, good mic, haven't had any issues. Just make sure you look up how to intall the hard wire kit if you're thinking about getting it. Might be more hassle than your planning. Other than that, solid and easy to install.

One of the best value front and rear cams on the market

This camera is easy to use, has good video quality, decent audio quality, a sensible file system, seems to be pretty accurate with speed etc, and hides well behind a rear view mirror. I've been running with this camera for close to a year now and can't think of much to complain about. I don't use the wifi often but when I do, it's useful to have. Overall at this price, a very good camera set
