Vantrue Mirror Cam 2 vs. Vantrue M3 Mirror Cam 3

When Vantrue released its first standard R1 dash camera back in 2015, the company showed its drive to deliver the utmost tech, security, and safety to every driver. Over the years, Vantrue has remained true to its commitment, now having released 26 various dashcam models, in the global market.

One of the best-selling Vantrue products is its mirror streaming camera called the Mirror Cam 2. This 2022, Vantrue shows off the best version of the Mirror Cam series with the all-new Vantrue Mirror Cam 3 or simply M3 - made exclusively available for pre-order at BlackboxMyCar.

Let's find out if the M3 can make the M2 users switch for its features and specs.

Vantrue M2 2.5K Mirror Dash Cam

Launched in 2021, the Vantrue Mirror Cam 2 is a dual mirror dash cam equipped with HDR technology, Sony STARVIS image sensors, Novatek chips, and a 6-glass fix-focused lens designed to provide high-quality car exterior footage. It is built to clip onto your existing rear view mirror and display the live feed on its smart split screen-enabled, trapezoidal 12-inch touchscreen display.

Vantrue Mirror Cam 2’s Video Recording Capabilities

The M2's bigger width aids its 148° front camera to capture the road ahead, which also comes with a 140° rear-facing camera to record the traffic. The M2's 1440p front and rear cameras operate well in various conditions, even at night. The front cam retains more exposure on dark roads, giving the footage a clearer detail and noise reduction system for crisper videos.

With the adjustable brackets in the Mirror Cam 2, you can mount the rear camera on the license plate or the rear windshield. The rear camera has an IP67 waterproof rating, allowing it to function properly even in bad weather conditions.

What's good about the M2's rear camera?

What's loved about the rear camera is that it can serve as a backup camera with its Reverse Aid Line feature that automatically shows up on the screen when you reverse - guiding you to park quickly and safely.

What are its safety features?

On top of that, the Vantrue Mirror Cam 2 is also built-in with a G-sensor that automatically locks the recorded video clips to prevent them from being overwritten in its loop recording feature, along with an audio recorder, speaker and a parking mode with a time-lapse feature.

The All-New Vantrue Mirror Cam 3

Just a year after the launch of the Mirror Cam 2, Vantrue has developed an upgraded edition with the Vantrue Mirror Cam 3.

What are the M3's Front and Rear Cam Resolutions?

The Vantrue Mirror Cam 3 uses a 5MP Sony STARVIS IMX335 image sensor to capture the road ahead in 2K QHD at 30 frames per second. The M3's rear camera is equipped with 2MP Sony STARVIS IMX307 image sensors that clearly capture traffic in 1080p Full HD. Both work reliably in recording details, such as license plates and road signs.

Does it have an interior camera?

The Vantrue Mirror Cam 3 is a three-channel mirror dash cam, and is now equipped with a 2MP SOI JX-F53SA image sensor in the 360-degree rotatable interior IR (infrared) camera that captures in-cabin activity even in pitch-black environments.

What are the dash cam upgrades?

The Vantrue Mirror Cam 3's 12-inch anti-glare touchscreen display measures similar to the M2 but is edgier for its rectangular shape. While the M2 is built with a basic processor, the Mirror cam 3 boasts a Dual Core Linux operating system for faster performance and user responsiveness.

Does the M3 have the features of the M2?

All the safety and convenience features of the Mirror Cam 2, such as the loop recording feature, G-sensor, parking mode with time-lapse, and Reverse Aid Line, are also squeezed into the Vantrue Mirror Cam 3. Useful for speed and location tracking, the Vantrue Mirror Cam 3 also provides precise navigational, positioning and timing with its BeiDou3-powered GPS.

The Verdict

The Vantrue Mirror Cam 2 and Vantrue Mirror Cam 3 are great options if you're looking for a mirror dash cam that can conveniently, and discreetly inform you about your car's surroundings - all in one screen.

However, its channel system is the main upgrade between the Vantrue Mirror Cam 2 and Vantrue Mirror Cam 3. The responsiveness is also improved with the upgraded Linux processor for the M3.

In terms of safety and security, both models serve their purpose. However, the M3 provides more detail through its 360-degree rotatable in-cabin camera, guaranteeing all-around protection not just in the exteriors, but also for your passengers inside.

The Vantrue Mirror Cam 3 official product release is slated for November 20, but it is exclusively available for pre-order at BlackboxMyCar right now. And to make it an all-inclusive solution, we are including a 32GB Micro SD card for Free!
