Thinkware F70 Pro Wi-Fi Dash Cam Review
Our advice on choosing the F70 PRO for front recording, local phone access and parking coverage
Meet the F70 PRO
At BlackboxMyCar, we help you choose dash cams for safety and peace of mind on and off the road. The F70 PRO suits drivers who want a front camera, local phone access and a choice of parking modes. We’ll explain how those modes affect the footage you keep, using the F70 PRO v1.1 user guide and Thinkware’s current Smart Parking guidance. If you are upgrading from the older F70, use the F70 PRO’s own manual and firmware.
Thinkware lists the screenless F70 PRO at 82 × 33.8 × 34.6 mm, excluding its mount. We suggest choosing its position before installation: the lens needs a clear view, and the camera must not obstruct your view of the road. Check local mounting rules before installation; dimensions alone do not establish where you may fit a camera.
If you are comparing it with the VIOFO A119 Mini 2, compare the dimensions and mounting position against your available windshield space. We can help you work through the fit before you choose.
Plan a suitable continuous power supply if you want parking recording. The F70 PRO’s internal supercapacitor provides auxiliary power; it cannot run an overnight recording session. We can help you choose parking power separately from the camera.

F70 PRO features at a glance

- Super Night Vision: Parking mode only.
- Wide Dynamic Range: Image processing still depends on conditions.
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: Local pairing and video connection.
- DASH CAM LINK: View files and change settings while stopped.
- Parking power: Confirm the cable and vehicle installation.
- Energy Saving and Smart Parking: Different triggers and thermal limits.
- GPS alerts: Optional external receiver required.
Recording and camera controls
Use the REC button when you want to start a manual recording. The camera also has a microphone and speaker, Wi-Fi button, external GPS port and microSD card slot. Choose whether to include audio with the Voice Recording setting. We advise making changes while stopped: the manual says recording stops while you configure settings in the mobile viewer.
The F70 PRO records the front view in 1080P FHD at 30 FPS (1920 × 1080). The v1.1 manual lists a 2.1 MP CMOS sensor, and Thinkware’s Australian F70 PRO specifications list Wide Dynamic Range (WDR). To get a useful picture of your setup’s results, keep the glass and lens clean and review saved clips. Lighting, weather and windshield and lens condition affect detail; you cannot count on every plate or sign being readable.
If you are also considering the Thinkware U3000, start with the views and recording modes you need. We suggest comparing those choices before image detail, since the exact channel configuration determines what you record.
Before choosing a Thinkware CPL filter or BlackboxMyCar Aqua Shield, ask us about fit for your F70 PRO installation and follow the exact accessory’s instructions. Neither accessory can make every recording readable in every weather condition.
Super Night Vision works in parking mode only on the F70 PRO. We suggest keeping that distinction in mind when comparing night footage: it adjusts brightness during parking recording and does not apply to continuous driving recording. It cannot guarantee legible plates or signs after dark.
For a comparison with the F200 PRO New Driver Bundle, Q1000 or U3000, compare each model’s own night-recording instructions. We can help you work through those differences; a shared feature name does not mean identical recording behaviour.
The F200 PRO bundle and Q1000 are archived listings. Explore current Thinkware models.
Thinkware's current US and Canadian product tables list a 140° diagonal viewing angle, while the F70 PRO v1.1 manual lists approximately 128° diagonal. The published figures conflict, so confirm your unit’s specification with Thinkware if exact coverage matters to you. The feature illustration shows 140°.

Choose a parking mode
Parking recording needs compatible continuous power and the correct settings. The v1.1 guide requires a hardwiring cable to be installed professionally by a trained mechanic. Thinkware also lists an OBD II power option. Confirm the exact cable, vehicle connection and selected package before arranging either installation.
Our advice is to choose parking mode by the footage you want to keep. These F70 PRO modes have different triggers and recording windows:
- Motion Detection saves a 20-second clip when motion or an impact is detected, covering 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after the event.
- Time Lapse records at 2 FPS. For an impact, the manual describes 100 seconds of footage, covering 50 seconds before and after detection, compressed into a 20-second file.
- Energy Saving monitors impacts during inactivity. Its 20-second recording starts within one second after detection, so it does not supply the same pre-event buffer as Motion Detection.
We suggest planning parking power around how long you leave the car between drives. Actual duration depends on battery charge, the supply, temperature and settings. Have your installer set the off timer and battery cutoff for your setup: extended recording or a very low cutoff can drain the vehicle battery and leave you unable to start.
For a separate parking power source, compare dash cam battery packs with us. We can help you match the output cable and vehicle charging connection, and compare runtime for your selected pack, camera and parking mode.

Understand the heat limits
Thinkware includes the F70 PRO in its Smart Parking guidance for thermal protection only. During Motion Detection or Time Lapse parking, its guidance describes a switch above 65°C to a low-power mode that records for 20 seconds after a detected impact. Normal parking mode resumes at 55°C or below. Energy Saving mode remains unchanged.
For a hot cabin or cold-weather setup, we advise checking both the camera and power equipment limits. The v1.1 guide specifies -10°C to 60°C operation, and Thinkware describes shutdown in extreme heat. Smart Parking changes what the camera records; it cannot promise continuous motion recording or operation at every temperature.

Connect to your phone
The F70 PRO has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Thinkware describes Bluetooth pairing with the THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK app; the manual explains how to view and manage recordings and change settings. Video access uses a local connection to the camera. Bluetooth pairing alone does not establish remote video access.
Before you connect, check the current app listing for your phone’s requirements and follow the F70 PRO instructions. We suggest downloading important clips before you leave the camera. Screens can change with app versions, so use the guidance for your camera and app.

Plan the optional GPS connection
An optional external GPS receiver supplies GPS data and enables the related safety-camera alerts; GPS is not built into the F70 PRO. Use the camera's GPS port and follow the receiver and camera installation instructions.
If safety-camera alerts matter to you, check the available data and settings for the areas you drive. Your windshield and surroundings can affect GPS reception. Alerts cannot cover every camera or road or guarantee that you avoid a ticket.

Keep important recordings
Thinkware calls its file-management feature Anti-File Corruption. The camera still has overwrite and format controls. Keep a separate copy of important recordings before changing the recording setup: the manual says parking clips can be deleted when you change parking settings. File-management features do not make the card a permanent backup.
Choose a supported card: the v1.1 manual lists 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB microSD capacities. Turn the camera off before removal and follow the card instructions. We advise backing up important clips before formatting. If you find different files from the driving footage you expected, review overwrite and Privacy Recording settings.
Choose the exact F70 PRO firmware download and follow the manufacturer's update sequence. Keep power connected until the upgrade finishes; do not remove the card or interrupt the update.
F70 PRO questions
Why can I find event clips but not my normal driving footage?
Look in the Continuous recording folder as well as Event, then review overwrite and Privacy Recording settings in the F70 PRO instructions. Save important clips before changing settings or formatting. If the problem continues, tell our team which card, app and settings you use so we can help you work through it.
Does Energy Saving capture footage before an impact?
Energy Saving starts its 20-second recording within one second after detecting an impact. It does not provide the pre-event buffer described for Motion Detection. Choose the parking mode and compatible power connection for the recording window you need.
Will the F70 PRO keep recording in a very hot or cold car?
The v1.1 manual specifies -10°C to 60°C operation. Smart Parking changes Motion Detection or Time Lapse to impact-only recording under its thermal conditions, and extreme temperatures can still stop recording. Check the limits of the camera and its power supply.
Can I connect it to a rental car?
Check the rental agreement, local mounting rules and the vehicle's power connection before installing anything. A suitable driving power connection does not establish parking-mode support. Ask about the exact car and cable; the manual requires hardwiring to be installed professionally by a trained mechanic.
