The VIOFO A229 Pro Tele 2CH records a wide 4K road view alongside a narrower 2K view of traffic ahead. Choose this two-camera package when closer forward detail matters more than rear coverage. 4K Front Recording for Road Context

The main front camera records 3840 × 2160 video at 30FPS with a wide 140° view. It shows the lane, nearby vehicles and surrounding road while the telephoto camera concentrates on a narrower area ahead. Keep both views correctly aimed and save the original files if you need to review an incident.

The front sensor is an 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678, and the telephoto sensor is a 5MP STARVIS 2 IMX675. For a wide front view and a camera facing behind the vehicle, compare the A229 Pro 2CH front-and-rear system.

A Closer Forward View with a Fixed Telephoto Lens

The 2K telephoto camera uses a fixed long-focus lens for a narrower view of the road ahead. VIOFO describes it as 4× optical zoom relative to the wide front view; it is not a motorized zoom lens. Mount the front and telephoto cameras facing forward, then align the telephoto view carefully. Its narrow angle can help show distant detail, while the wide camera retains the surrounding road context.

The telephoto lens has an F2.0 aperture and 35° field of view. Current settings can enable it during driving, parking or both. Check its alignment with a saved recording; a narrow view can miss events happening outside the centre of the road.

HDR for Changing Light

HDR helps balance bright headlights and darker surroundings. The included front CPL-200 reduces windshield reflections; the forward telephoto camera uses the optional CPL-500. Choose the exact fit from our VIOFO CPL filters. Keep the glass and lenses clean, and check both forward camera views after installation.

Parking Recording with Compatible Power

The optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit supplies constant power, an ignition signal and a battery cutoff through the GPS mount’s USB-C port. Choose buffered event recording, time-lapse without audio, or low-bitrate video and audio. Current settings offer Night Vision with 1FPS time-lapse and up to three parking geofence zones.

The current manual also supports HK6, which is required for the vehicle-voltage stamp. Parking runtime depends on available power, cutoff settings, temperature and camera settings. Check ignition switching and recordings from every connected camera after installation.

GPS for Reviewing a Journey

The GPS module supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou satellite systems. Location, speed and time information can add context when you review a recording. Confirm the time settings and GPS reception after installation; windshield coatings, surrounding buildings and satellite visibility can affect reception.

Download Clips with Dual-Band Wi-Fi

Use the VIOFO app over 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi to review footage and download files while near the camera. The transfer figures in the illustration are manufacturer examples, not guaranteed speeds for every phone or environment. Save the original incident clips before editing or compressing a copy for sharing. Wi-Fi is not remote cloud access.

Voice Controls and Spoken Notifications

Supported voice commands let you save a video, take a photo and operate common camera functions. Spoken notifications help you notice recording or memory-card problems. Set up the system while parked, practise the supported commands and check important files once it is safe to stop.

Commands support English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese; other interface languages use English commands. The optional BTR200 remote provides a physical clip-lock button and configurable controls.

Storage and Saved Incident Files

The system supports microSD cards up to 512GB, installed in the main front unit. Choose a compatible high-endurance microSD card for continuous recording. Loop recording replaces older ordinary files as the card fills, and additional channels use storage faster. Copy important clips promptly and check card health and formatting regularly. Frequently Asked Questions

Which way do the cameras face?

The wide 4K front camera and 2K telephoto camera both face forward. No rear or cabin camera is included. Compare the A229 Pro 2CH front-and-rear system if you need one camera facing ahead and another facing behind.

Is the 4× telephoto lens adjustable?

No. It is a fixed F2.0 long-focus lens with a 35° view. The 4× description is relative to the wide front lens, not a motorized zoom setting. Aim the camera carefully and use both saved views when reviewing an incident.

Does the Tele model record 4K at 60FPS?

No. The front records 4K at 30FPS and the telephoto records 2K at 30FPS. For a two-channel telephoto system with a front 4K 60FPS option when HDR is off, compare the A329T 2CH.

Will it always show a readable license plate?

No. The narrower view can show more distant detail, but speed, distance, light, glare, weather and alignment still affect the result. Check daylight and nighttime footage from your own installation. A telephoto view also covers less of the scene than the wide front lens.

Which CPL filters fit?

The front CPL-200 is included. The telephoto camera uses optional CPL-500. Select those exact options on our VIOFO CPL filters page. Filters for an ordinary A229 Pro rear camera are a different fit.

Can I use the telephoto camera only while driving?

Yes. Current Tele settings let you choose On, Off, Only On while Driving or Only On while Parking for the telephoto camera. Check the saved channels after changing this setting so the recording matches your intended coverage.

What is required for parking recording?

Install the optional VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit with constant power, ignition and ground connected correctly, through the GPS-mount USB-C port. HK6 is also supported by the current manual; vehicle-voltage stamping requires HK6. Select a parking mode and battery cutoff, then test ignition switching. A switched vehicle socket stops supplying power when it turns off.

Which parking modes are available?

Buffered event detection saves triggered clips, time-lapse creates a condensed view without audio, and low-bitrate mode records continuous video and audio in smaller files. Night Vision is available with 1FPS time-lapse. Runtime depends on the power source, cutoff settings, temperature and recording settings.

What does parking geofencing do?

Set up to three places where the camera powers off instead of entering parking recording, such as your garage. Outside those areas, or with weak or lost GPS reception, it enters parking mode. Test each zone at the actual location.

Is a memory card included, and can I use an SSD?

A card is sold separately. Choose a high-endurance microSD card up to 512GB. All connected views save to the card in the front unit. This A229 model does not record to an external SSD; USB-C alone does not provide that feature.

Can I view footage from another location?

No. The 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi connection works with a nearby phone. GPS records location information with saved clips. This camera has no built-in LTE or cloud service for remote viewing, live tracking or parking push alerts.

Which voice languages work?

The current manual supports English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese commands. Other interface languages use English commands. Spoken status notifications are separate and can alert you to camera or card problems. Set up the system while parked and check important recordings when safe to stop.

What does privacy mode save?

Privacy mode retains only the latest 4 ordinary files for this 2-channel configuration. Keep it off if you need the usual recording history. Export important original clips before changing settings or formatting storage.

Which firmware should I install?

Use the A229 Pro Tele firmware page. The front file is FWA229PT, and the listed EthcamTxFW file is specifically for the telephoto camera. The ordinary A229 Pro rear firmware is not a substitute. Back up files and settings, use stable power and follow the exact update instructions. Current front updates reset settings and advise against downgrading.

What warranty comes with this package?

Works great, easy to use

The video quality is good, app easy to use to change settings or access videos without removing the SD card. I used the hard wire kit to make the most of the parking mode feature (had to get help to install the rear cam due to interior back panels being stubborn). Device fits right behind my mirror and doesn't obscure any visibility (2017 Acura rdx). The interior cam fit slightly above the mirror and can be seen, but there is nothing that can prevent that. Im not sure the interior cam is worth it for my use case, but overall I can recommend this camera unit.

Another great Viofo cam

Had a 129 Pro duo that I left in a vehicle I just sold and put this A229 in my new truck. So, there was no learning curve and I got the install done pretty easily. However... I used a 3rd party adapter/power supply that plugs into an existing socket in the overhead for a factory dashcam and that did not work out great for the Viofo. Turns out that when the vehicle does an auto stop and then restart at traffic lights the dashcam would reboot. Apparently, power is cut to that circuit when the starter engages and that is enough to drop the cam offline and cause a reboot. Another however... if you turn the cam's GPS off this problem does not occur. But then you lose speed overlay and route history.

The bottom line is that you really need to use the Viofo hardwire kit if you want this to work reliably... unless and until someone makes an adapter than can buffer these power transients. And the hardwire kit really is easy to install.

Good camera maybe

I have had this for a few weeks, still having trouble le getting videos thru the app, needs wifi but vehicle wifi takes over and wont let connect. Wifi doesn't stay on would be nice if it did or it connected thru Bluetooth. Install was a little confusing but I ended up finally getting it and figuring out what camera went where. I cannot use the rear camera as the connection wire is not long enough for my truck no matter what way I run the chord so thats a little frustrating having a camera I cannot use

For the WiFi connection, if your vehicle WiFi is taking over, this is usually because wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is active. Those systems capture your phone’s WiFi connection, so turning them off before connecting to the VIOFO app should allow the dash cam to connect properly. You can turn them back on once you are done using the app. For the rear camera cable length, please reach out to our team and we’d be happy to look over your vehicle setup and see what options are available.

Works as advertised. I've had it for a couple weeks now. Resolution is great and licence plates are usually easy to read. FWIW I got the CPL filters for both front and rear.
Convenient features like wireless video transfer, scheduled HDR on/off, and one-touch mic on/off. Sleek design too. I haven't tested night videos or voice commands yet.
It's a big investment compared to my previous $60 camera, but the quality so far is well worth the price. I wish I bought this thing years ago.

I dont expect them to be perfect or great, but the first day i had access to the live preview and all of a sudden it stopped working on day 2 of being installed. The other thing is the VHB falling off the rear view camera (it stuck well to the window but its falling of the plastic of the camera). Other than that its working well. Quality during day and night good thanks to the STARVIS2

For the app side, we recommend using only the newer VIOFO Dashcam app with the red icon, as that is the current app that's actively being updated, and many connectivity issues can often be resolved with a few simple setup adjustments. As for the rear camera adhesive, if the spare mounting adhesive included in the box does not resolve the issue and it keeps happening, that would be covered under warranty.
