What do the S and P settings do?
S supplies driving-only power. P supplies driving and parking power, subject to your camera settings and protection limits. This is the second-generation IM-300 with two switches. The older JW-100 and JW-200 were separate fuel/hybrid and EV cables; use the IM-300 instructions for this model.
Which setting should I use for a hybrid?
Confirm your exact vehicle. Fuel vehicles use F and electric vehicles use EV, but hybrid guidance varies. Our tested Toyota Land Cruiser J250 Hybrid uses EV mode. That setting does not establish compatibility for every hybrid.
Which vehicles should I check before ordering?
An OBD-II port alone does not guarantee compatibility. Port wiring and diagnostic standards vary, particularly on some EVs, older vehicles and commercial vehicles. Confirm your exact model and year, including Honda Civic applications and non-standard ports. Consult the current guide in Resources and test ignition and parking behavior after installation. These tested applications are incompatible:
- 2020+ Fiat 500e
- 2011 to 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee
- 2003 to 2008 Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix
- 2003 to 2008 North American Toyota Corolla
Can I use it with Thinkware or FineVu?
BlackboxMyCar supports compatible Thinkware and FineVu connections, including suitable Thinkware Q200 2CH and Thinkware U3000 1CH applications. Some older connectors differ. Confirm your exact camera and connector with our team; the manufacturer manual does not establish compatibility with other brands.
What should I use for BlackVue or VIOFO?
Choose the dedicated BlackVue BOC-300 or VIOFO OP100 for a supported camera. Each has its own camera and vehicle requirements; the IM-300 is not a universal replacement.
Can I use it in a 24V truck?
The cable supports 12V to 24V input and output. The vehicle port and camera must also support the supplied voltage. It does not convert 24V to 12V.
How should I protect the vehicle battery?
The IM-300 has low-voltage and overcurrent protection, but parking time still depends on battery condition, charge, camera load and settings. Use your camera's battery-protection settings and check operation regularly. Route the 2m cable clear of pedals, moving trim and airbags.
How does OBD parking detection differ from hardwiring?
Detection methods vary by cable. An OBD cable may use voltage changes, motion or timers, and some generate an ignition signal for the camera. A three-wire hardwire kit connects directly to the vehicle’s ignition circuit. Follow this cable’s instructions and test driving and parking recording after installation.
