A second view of the road ahead

The main camera keeps the wider road scene in view, while RTC300 frames a smaller area farther ahead. This can help when reviewing a distant vehicle or sign. It is a fixed-view camera, not a lens you zoom in and out while driving.

HDR helps balance bright and dark parts of a scene, but distance, motion, light and windshield condition still affect readable detail. Aim both cameras after installation and inspect an original recording rather than assuming every plate will be legible.

The A229 Pro 1CH can use RTC300 as its second camera. On an existing A229 Plus 2CH, fitting RTC300 trades the normal rear view for a second forward view. Decide which coverage matters before changing the setup.

The supplied 0.6m (about 2ft) camera cable is intended for mounting RTC300 near the main front unit. Fit it inside the windshield without obstructing the driver’s view, connect with power off and use the correct A229 Plus/Pro firmware guidance. This listing is the original RTC300; newer RTC320 and RTC420 cameras have different specifications.

Does RTC300 work on its own?

No. It is an add-on camera for a compatible VIOFO A229 Plus or A229 Pro. It needs the main camera for power, controls and recording storage.

Can I keep my standard rear camera connected?

No. RTC300 uses the main camera’s USB-C rear-camera port, so it replaces the standard rear connection on an A229 Plus/Pro 2CH or 3CH setup.

Does it fit the original A229 Duo or an A329?

This RTC300 listing supports A229 Plus and A229 Pro. Do not assume compatibility with the original A229 Duo, A329 family or another camera because it has a similar connector.

Can I adjust the zoom while driving?

No. RTC300 records a fixed 30° telephoto view. Aim it during installation to complement the main camera’s wider forward recording.

Will every distant plate be readable?

No. A narrower view can make distant subjects larger in the frame, but lighting, movement, distance and lens alignment still determine usable detail.

Where should I mount it?

Inside the windshield near the main front camera, within reach of the included 0.6m lead. Keep the view clear and check both camera angles using a test recording.

Is this the newer 4× telephoto camera?

No. This item is RTC300. RTC320 and RTC420 are different models; their newer lens specifications do not describe this product.

What should I check before connecting it?

Confirm A229 Plus or A229 Pro model compatibility, the rear-port tradeoff and the current firmware instructions for that exact main camera. Connect with power off, then confirm that both channels record correctly.
