The A129 IR is the highly anticipated 2-channel dash cam offered by VIOFO for Uber, Lyft, and Taxi drivers. It takes advantage of the Sony Exmor R Starvis Image Sensor along with a new and improved lens to offer Full HD on both front and interior cameras at 30 frames per second. With the VIOFO app, taking out the memory card will no longer be necessary as it provides live preview, video download and playback, and settings adjustment. It also offers a 2" HD screen which allows for easy setup and playback of videos as a convenient alternative to using the VIOFO app.

What is Parking Mode?
Parking mode is offered on most of the dash cams available at BlackboxMyCar. While it is important to protect your vehicle while driving, it is just as important to have your vehicle protected while it is parked. When the dash cam is in parking mode, footage will only be saved when there is an impact and/or motion. Parking mode can be enabled with a hardwiring kit or a battery pack.

What is a Hardwire Kit?
A hardwiring kit enables parking mode. It allows your dash cam to remain powered on even when the vehicle's ignition is turned off. Installation is a breeze as you will only need to find an accessory fuse, constant fuse, and a grounding point.
What is a Battery Pack?
Most customers purchase the battery pack to avoid using the vehicle’s battery to power their dash cam. The battery pack is charged by either being hardwired into an accessory fuse or by being plugged into one of the vehicle's 12-volt cigarette sockets. We recommend the hardwiring the battery pack as it charges the battery pack quicker.

How much footage will my memory card store?
On average, a 2-channel dash cam writes 16GB/hour and a 1-channel dash cam writes about 8GB/hour.

Do I need a Rear Camera?
Accidents or events don't always happen at the front of the vehicle! Having a rear camera provides coverage for any events or accidents that may happen at the rear of the vehicle.

Do I need a IR Rear Camera?
An IR camera is designed to record the interior of the vehicle in low light conditions. This option is very popular among rideshare drivers.

What is a CPL filter?
A CPL filter attaches to the dash cam lens to eliminate lens flares, light reflections, and windshield glares.

I drive for Uber and Lyft, primarily at night. I needed a high quality dash cam with an IR interior camera. This is a great option.
The design of the camera body makes it very stealthy that you can't see the camera much or at all from be outside of the vehicle. With the separate interior and exterior cams, you have the flexibility to mount these cameras wherever you want. Ironically, I ended up mounting both cameras within an inch of each other. The sturdy mount on each camera does not allow for left-right adjustment. So, in order to get symmetrical FOVs you'll have to center both cameras near each other, near the center of the windshield (unless of course, you have another suitable location or application in mind). At the time of my review, Viofo's app is average at best. Do not attempt to update the firmware of the A129 Duo IR through the app, doing so will disable the IR lights and you'll have to revert back to the stock firmware V1.0 manually. Check Viofo's website for updates later than V1.0 before checking or updating your camera through the app.
Exterior daytime and nighttime footage is great. Interior daytime footage is great as well. Interior nighttime footage is good Ambient lighting from streetlights, others' headlights and such help make footage just outside the car visible. i say that because the IR lights produce such a tight beam of visibility inside the car although the total FOV is much larger. I drive XL so proper mounting is important to illuminate all the way to the third row seating. This camera does well in that regard too.
Standard installation was a breeze for me as this was not my first day cam. The cord from cam-to-cam is a little thicker but you'll be able to hide it even if you have to "double up" or run it next to the power cord. The manual shows the main camera being mounted on the passenger side of the rear view mirror. You'll want it close to you depending on where your steering wheel is lol. The L-shaped connectors may make wir...
