Upgrading from the VIOFO A119 V3 to the VIOFO WM1 Dash Cam - What to keep and what to replace?

If you are one of the numerous fans of the VIOFO A119 V3 dash cam, the launch of the WM1 could be the sign for you to say goodbye to your reliable pal.

As much as we love the A119 V3 too, we think that the newer WM1 dash cam now makes a more practical and efficient dash cam solution with its built-in Wi-Fi, Voice Notifications, and stealthy design that’s highly-recommended for all types of cars.

And once you've decided on the WM1, one of the questions you might have is, "Is there anything from my A119 V3 that I can keep before upgrading to the WM1?" Let’s find out.

Power Cables

Every A119 V3 package includes the main camera unit, a 12V power cable, a USB data cable, a Non-GPS mount, a GPS mount, and now, VIOFO static stickers.

Unfortunately, the VIOFO A119 V3 power cables can no longer be used when upgrading to the WM1. The VIOFO WM1's USB cable has been upgraded to Type-C, while the A119 V3 uses a standard Mini USB connection. The A119 V3 power cables are not compatible with the WM1.

Mount

The WM1's design also differs significantly from that of the A119 V3, with the A119 V3 featuring a 2-inch screen and a quick release mount, whereas the WM1 does not have a screen and instead comes with a flexible mount.

Previously, the VIOFO A119 V3 had a suction cup mount - which cannot be used in the VIOFO WM1. The good news is now, every package includes a VIOFO static windshield sticker which can be both used in the A119 V3 and the WM1.

CPL Filter

The A119 V3 and WM1 both come with the option of adding a CPL filter to reduce glare and protect the dash cam's lens from scratches and fingerprints. Unfortunately, the A119 V3's CPL filter is incompatible with the WM1, which uses an updated CPL filter, the same one as the A139. You’ll need to replace it as well if you want to include this accessory.

The silver lining is that the new CPL filter for the WM1 is updated, and will fix directly to the front camera lens, with a much less bulky and noticeable design as the old CPL model.

The A119 V3 CPL filter is compatible with A119 and A129 series, while the WM1 uses the same CPL filter as the A229, T130, and A139 series.

Battery Pack

If you’re using a battery pack for the VIOFO A119 V3, you can also use it for the WM1 as both support parking modes. The PowerCell 8 works best for both dash cams.

Both cameras will need a spliced power cable to connect the camera to a battery pack, and given that the power cables are different, the spliced cable to connect these models to your battery will need to be changed.
