How to Connect to Thinkware Cloud

If you have a Thinkware Dash Cam with built-in Wi-Fi, Thinkware allows you to connect your device to a smartphone to view your footage and maximize security remotely.

Currently, Thinkware offers different mobile applications with its various models: Thinkware Cloud, Thinkware Connected, and Thinkware Dash Cam Link.

In this article, we will show you how to connect to the Thinkware Cloud App, which is compatible with the Thinkware U1000, Q800 Pro, and other older models.

Connecting via Wi-Fi

iOS: How to Connect to the Thinkware Cloud App via Wi-Fi

  1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition to put your Thinkware dash cam in Continuous Recording Mode.
  2. Open the Thinkware Cloud App on your iPhone. Select the red bar at the bottom stating: “Dash cam Connection is Required” then select your dash cam model.
  3. Press the Wi-Fi Button to activate it.
  4. You will hear "Connect to a Wi-Fi Network whose name starts with Thinkware"
  5. Once you hear the verbal message, select Next.
  6. Go to your iPhone’s Settings, then click Wi-Fi.
  7. Select the Wi-Fi Network with the name 'Thinkware_xx' (e.g. Thinkware_68)
  8. Enter the default password '123456789' and select Join.
  9. Confirm 'Thinkware_xx' is connected in the iPhone Settings. If the Thinkware Wi-Fi disconnects or disappears immediately, please refer to Disabling Wi-Fi Assist.
  10. Reopen the Thinkware Cloud App and you will hear "Connected to a Smartphone".

Android: How to Connect to the Thinkware Cloud App via Wi-Fi

  1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition to put your Thinkware dash cam in Continuous Recording Mode.
  2. Open the Thinkware Cloud App on your smartphone. Select Dash cam Connection is Required then select your dash cam model.
  3. Press the Wi-Fi Button to activate it.
  4. You will hear "Connect to a Wi-Fi Network whose name starts with Thinkware"
  5. Once you hear the verbal message, select Next.
  6. Go to Phone Settings, then click Wi-Fi.
  7. Select the Wi-Fi Network with the name 'Thinkware_xx' (e.g. Thinkware_68)
  8. Enter the default password '123456789' and select Join.
  9. Reopen the Thinkware Cloud App and you will hear "Connected to a Smartphone".

Registering your Thinkware Dash Cam

Registering your Thinkware Dash Cam entails creating a Thinkware Account and connecting the Dash Cam to your Smartphone's Hotspot. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Download the Thinkware Cloud App from the App Store.
  2. Select the ... symbol in the bottom right, tap SIGN IN, and tap THINKWARE Sign up.
  3. Fill out the required information including your Email address, Nick Name, Password, and Password Confirmation. You will also see the app’s Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Newsletter Subscription and Sign Up option.
    Note: Your password must be 8 to 12 characters in length with at least 1 letter and number. The only allowed special characters are (! @ # $ % ^ * ~).
  4. Open the Confirmation Email in your email inbox.
  5. Select CONFIRM ACCOUNT, input your account credentials, tap SIGN IN then confirm that you're signed in on thinkware.com.
  6. Return to the Thinkware Cloud App. Input your account credentials, tap SIGN IN.
  7. Select "Yes" to receive push notifications and enable Push Notifications if those are desired features.
  8. To finish the registration, connect the Dash Cam to your Smartphone's Hotspot. Enable the Network Function Setting to enjoy the Thinkware Cloud features!

Connecting via Hotspot

iOS: How to Connect to the Thinkware Cloud App via Hotspot

When you connect your Thinkware Dash Cam to a hotspot, you will be able to use Thinkware Cloud Features such as Locate Vehicle, Geo-fencing, Remote Live View, and Impact Video Notification/Upload. Here’s how to do it:

Note: Compatible hotspot devices are Smartphone Hotspot, built-in-vehicle hotspot, external hotspot device, and Wi-Fi Router.

  1. Download the Thinkware Cloud App from the Apple App Store.
  2. Ensure you have created a Thinkware Cloud Account, and have logged in.
  3. On your iPhone go to Settings > Personal Hotspot. Ensure your Hotspot is enabled and write down your Personal Hotspot Wi-Fi Password and SSID.
  4. Open the Thinkware Cloud App. Select the following from the main screen: Dash cam connection is required > Your Dash Cam Model > Connect
  5. You will now be asked if it is the first connection with the dash cam. If you have not connected with this Hotspot Device specifically before, select Yes.
  6. To complete the Hotspot Setup, you must first connect via WiFi as prompted by the Thinkware Cloud App. Press the Wi-Fi button once on your dash cam to activate the Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi LED will blink green when searching for Wi-Fi.
  7. Once you hear "On your smartphone connect to a Wi-Fi network whose name starts with Thinkware", click Next.
  8. Open your iPhone Settings > Wi-Fi.
  9. Select the Wi-Fi network 'Thinkware_xx' (e.g. Thinkware_68)
  10. Enter the default password '123456789' and click Join.
  11. Confirm in your iPhone Settings that you are connected to the Thinkware WiFi. 'Thinkware_xx' *If this disconnects immediately, please refer to Disabling WiFi Assist.
  12. Open the Thinkware Cloud App. You will hear "Connected to a smartphone" and the Green LED will stay solid.
  13. Leaving the Personal Hotspot enabled, input the Personal Hotspot Password and SSID we wrote down in Step 3 then press Input Complete.
  14. Next the dash cam will announce "Disconnected from a smartphone, The device will find a Wi-Fi Hotspot. Turn on your personal Hotspot". *The WiFi LED will also begin blinking blue.
  15. Stay on the Hotspot Settings Screen until the 3 following events occur;
    1. Blue Personal Hotspot Connection appears at the top of the phone screen.
    2. Solid Blue WiFi LED on the dash cam.
    3. Dash Cam will announce "Connected to the Internet" - Note that opening the Thinkware Cloud App prematurely will cause the connection to fail. You will need to restart from Step 4.
  16. Once you have confirmed the three conditions above have been met, reopen the Thinkware Cloud App. You should see “Registration Complete”
  17. Next you will be asked to agree to the Service Terms. Click on each of the 3 Service Terms. 18. Lastly, select “Agreed to all” to confirm the Service Terms.

After timing out or turning off the iPhone's screen, your iPhone may disconnect from the Thinkware Cloud App. You may hear "Disconnected from a Smartphone" in this case.

However, because the dash cam is still connected to the internet, the Blue LED should remain solid. Simply reopen the Thinkware Cloud App to hear "Connected to a Smartphone" again.

Android: How to Connect to the Thinkware Cloud App via Hotspot

  1. Download the Thinkware Cloud App from the Google Play Store.
  2. Ensure you have created a Thinkware Cloud Account, and have logged in.
  3. On your Android Phone, go to Settings > Mobile Hotspot. Ensure your Hotspot is disabled and write down your Personal Hotspot Wi-Fi Password.
  4. Open the Thinkware Cloud App. Select the following from the main screen: Dash cam connection is required > Your Dash Cam Model > Connect
  5. You will now be asked if it is the first connection with the dash cam. If you have not connected with this Hotspot Device specifically before, select Yes, it is.
  6. To complete the Hotspot Setup, you must first connect via WiFi as prompted by the Thinkware Cloud App. Press the Wi-Fi button once on your dash cam to activate the Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi LED will blink green when searching for Wi-Fi.
  7. Once you hear "On your smartphone connect to a Wi-Fi network whose name starts with Thinkware", click Next.
  8. Open your Phone Settings > Wi-Fi.
  9. Select the Wi-Fi network 'Thinkware_xx' (e.g. Thinkware_68)
  10. Enter the default password '123456789' and click Connect.
  11. Confirm in your Phone Settings that you are connected to the Thinkware WiFi. 'Thinkware_xx' *If this disconnects immediately, please refer to Disabling WiFi Assist.
  12. pen the Thinkware Cloud App. You will hear "Connected to a smartphone" and the Green LED will stay solid.
  13. Leaving the Personal Hotspot disabled, input the Personal Hotspot Password we wrote down in Step 3 then press Input Complete.
  14. Next the dash cam will announce "Disconnected from a smartphone, The device will find a Wi-Fi Hotspot. Turn on your personal Hotspot". *The WiFi LED will also begin blinking blue.
  15. Go to Phone Settings > Personal Hotspot and enable your Personal Hotspot
  16. Stay on the Hotspot Settings Screen until the 3 followings occur;
    1. Blue Personal Hotspot Connection appears at the top of the phone screen.
    2. Solid Blue WiFi LED on the dash cam.
    3. Dash Cam will announce "Connected to the Internet" - Note that opening the Thinkware Cloud App prematurely will cause the connection to fail. You will need to restart from Step 4.
  17. Once you have confirmed the three conditions above have been met, reopen the Thinkware Cloud App. You should see “Registration Complete”
  18. Next you will be asked to agree to the Service Terms. Click on each of the 3 Service Terms. 18. Lastly, select “Agreed to all” to confirm the Service Terms.
