The upgrade over the previous F70 model, which has been well-loved by industry experts, the Thinkware F70 Pro is built with reliability and safety features on top. It’s now up for grabs here at BlackboxMyCar, and we’re excited to show you our recommended settings to maximize the performance and functions of this one-channel dash cam!

Best Settings for the Thinkware F70 Pro 1-Channel Dash Cam

The optimal settings of the Thinkware F70 Pro can be set according to your preferences using the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App or the PC viewer. The recommendations that we will provide are done using the Dash Cam Link App. Note that the Thinkware F70 Pro will stop recording while configuring settings over the smartphone app.

Part 1: Managing the Memory Card

The Thinkware F70 Pro can support memory cards up to 128 GB, now bigger compared to the F70’s 64 GB micro SD card capacity. Apart from this, it also has a Memory Partitioning feature that assists in managing and conserving storage space. From the mobile viewer, tap Dash Cam settings > Memory Card Settings.

Recommended Memory Card Settings for the Thinkware F70 Pro

Memory Partition: Continuous Priority. This will prioritize saving continuous recording over other types of footage.

Formatting Memory Card: Formatting the SD card will whip all footage from the card, erasing it.

When formatting the memory card, you can tap Format, then Confirm

Still, there are other ways to format your micro SD card.  On the head unit itself, you can see the REC button, which multitasks for a few functions. If you hold the REC button for 5 seconds, it will format the SD card.

Part 2: Setting the Camera

In this section, you will learn how to maximize the camera resolution of this full-HD dash cam. From the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App, tap Dash Cam settings > Camera Settings.

Recommended Camera Settings for the Thinkware F70 Pro

Brightness for front: Mid, depending on your windshield tint

Super Night Vision: Enabled, do note that this feature is only supported in parking mode and not in Continuous recording mode

Part 3: Setting Recording Features

To ensure all-around security for your car, these are our recommended settings for the Thinkware F70 Pro. From the Thinkware Dash Cam Link App, tap Dash Cam settings > Record Settings to manage the recording features settings.

Do note that for the parking mode settings, parking mode must be activated via hardwiring, or OBD cable. If continuous power is not supplied to the Thinkware F70 Pro, the product will stop recording when the vehicle engine is turned off.

Recommended Recording Settings for the Thinkware F70 Pro

Voice Recording: Enabled - The Thinkware F70 Pro comes equipped with a built-in microphone for recording audio in the cabin. We recommend turning this on for security purposes, especially when you’re sharing a ride. However, if you live in an area where audio recording is prohibited, you can have this setting disabled. You can also easily turn on and off the audio of the voice recording by holding down the record button for 3 seconds. Be careful not to hold down the record button for 5 seconds, which will format the card.

Set Privacy Recording: Disabled - This is a new feature that constantly wipes the SD card for your privacy, constantly looping over existing footage and storing only a limited-time backlog. If you want to enable this, you can choose between 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, and G-Shock options which only saves impacts. Files will be saved that long after being recorded, and cleared afterwards.

Continuous Mode Incident Recording Sensitivity: Mid. If your vehicle rides pretty low, and you can feel most bumps on the road, then consider turning the sensitivity down.

Parking Mode: Motion Detection – although if you leave your dash cam for a long time, you can also activate Energy Saving mode.

When activated, Thinkware’s Energy Saving Parking mode saves a 20-sec video clip only after an impact has been detected.

Parking Mode Waiting Time: 30 seconds. This is a new option to enable a short boot delay when switching from normal recording to parking mode.

Smart Parking Rec: Enabled, for thermal protection and external battery protection. When enabled, this setting prevents heat-related damage by automatically switching to a low-power mode if the temperature inside the vehicle gets too high during parking surveillance.

Impact Sensitivity in Parking Mode: Mid

Motion Detection Sensitivity: Mid

Battery Protection: Enabled. This enables the cutoff options below.

Off Timer: Depends on your preference - the Thinkware F70 Pro has a built-in voltage monitor, and this option is more of a backup. With this setting, you can set a timer so that your dash cam will turn off after a specific duration of parking mode or the voltage cutoff, whichever comes first. To turn off the off timer, select Disabled.

Vehicle Type: Choose whether you’re using a regular car, a hybrid car, or an electric car

Battery Cutoff Voltage: 12V. 12V is an average voltage cut-off which will work for the large majority of vehicles. If you are concerned about the health of your car battery, you can set a higher cut-off, if you are not concerned you can set a lower cut-off.

Wintertime Battery Protection: November, December, January

To activate parking surveillance mode, do note that the Thinkware F70 Pro needs to be hardwired via hardwiring kit, or through an OBD power cable.

Part 4: Setting Road Safety Features

Safety is our top priority, and the Thinkware F70 Pro’s features like Mobile Zone Alerts and Safety Camera Alerts can be your guide all throughout your drive. Tap Dash Cam settings > Road Safety Settings to manage the road safety features settings.
