Thinkware F70 Pro: Full HD Front Dash Cam

The F70 Pro records the road ahead at 1080p and 30FPS in a compact, screen-free body. Use the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app to aim the camera, review recordings and adjust settings while you are near the vehicle. Bluetooth assists pairing, and the camera’s 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection handles video access.

Choose it for a small front-only setup with several parking recording options. The included cigarette-lighter power cable covers normal driving use; parking mode needs a compatible hardwire or OBD power connection, sold separately.

Full HD footage in a compact front camera

A 2.1MP CMOS sensor records 1920 × 1080 video at 30FPS. The body measures 82 × 33.8 × 34.6mm and weighs 42.4g without the mount, making it easy to position behind the mirror while keeping the driver’s view clear.

Continuous recording saves driving clips to the memory card. An impact triggers a separate 20-second event file with 10 seconds before and after detection. Pressing REC saves a manual clip with 10 seconds before and 50 seconds after the press. Export important files promptly.

The sample footage shows this exact model. Lighting, speed, lens position and distance affect readable detail. For a front-and-rear system, compare the Thinkware Q200 2-channel; the F70 Pro has no rear-camera input.

Choose how the camera records while parked

With a compatible Thinkware hardwiring kit or OBD power cable, choose Motion Detection, Time Lapse or Energy Saving. Motion Detection saves 20-second clips with 10 seconds on each side of a detected motion or impact. Time Lapse records at 2FPS.

Energy Saving waits for an impact and then records a 20-second clip; it does not preserve footage from before the impact. Choose the mode for the evidence you need rather than assuming every parking mode is buffered.

Super Night Vision improves low-light brightness in parking mode. Smart Parking Recording can switch to impact-only operation when the camera gets hot; the camera can still shut down at extreme temperatures. Use battery protection and the off timer to suit the vehicle. Parking runtime depends on available power and conditions.

Review footage over local Wi-Fi

Open Thinkware Dash Cam Link on a compatible iPhone or Android phone and follow its pairing prompts. Once connected, use live view to check the camera angle, find saved clips and download files before they are overwritten. Use these controls while safely parked. Recording stops while you configure settings in the mobile app.

Bluetooth helps the initial connection; video access uses the camera’s Wi-Fi network. This local connection does not provide internet, cellular service or remote Cloud viewing when you are away from the car.

The F70 Pro supports 16, 32, 64 and 128GB microSD cards. The listed package includes a 32GB card. Use a supported card, back up important recordings and turn the camera off before removing it. Check the current app-store requirements for your phone.

Add GPS for location data and camera alerts

The optional Thinkware external GPS antenna connects to the camera’s GPS socket. It adds speed and location information to recordings and enables supported speed-camera and red-light-camera alerts. GPS is not built into the F70 Pro.

Keep the regional safety-camera database current using Thinkware’s downloads. Alert coverage depends on the database and GPS reception; it does not identify every camera or replace following road signs. The GPS accessory does not turn this camera into a live vehicle tracker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a rear camera later?

No. The F70 Pro is a front-only camera and has no rear-camera connection. Choose a compatible multi-channel system such as the Q200 front-and-rear kit if rear coverage matters.

Does it use a Sony STARVIS 2 sensor?

Thinkware specifies a 2.1MP CMOS sensor for the F70 Pro, not a Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. It records Full HD 1080p at 30FPS.

Does Super Night Vision work while driving?

On the F70 Pro, Super Night Vision is a parking-mode feature. It improves low-light brightness while parked; it is not Super Night Vision 4.0 and does not guarantee readable plates in every scene.

What do I need for parking mode?

A compatible hardwire or OBD power connection that supplies parking power and the appropriate vehicle-state signal. The included cigarette-lighter cable is intended for normal driving use. Enable the desired parking mode and battery protection in the app.

Do all parking modes record before an impact?

No. Motion Detection provides a 10-second pre-event buffer. Time Lapse records an accelerated view at 2FPS. Energy Saving begins its event recording after impact detection, so it does not show the lead-up.

What happens if the camera gets hot?

Smart Parking Recording can reduce parking operation to impact-only recording. A separate thermal protection function can shut the camera down at extreme temperatures. Its specified operating range is −10°C to 60°C; it is not guaranteed to keep recording in all heat conditions.

Can I see the camera remotely through Wi-Fi?

No. The F70 Pro’s Wi-Fi is for a nearby phone connection to the camera. It does not include cellular service or remote Cloud access.

Do I need my phone connected while driving?

No. After setup, the powered camera records to its microSD card without a continuous phone connection. Connect locally when you need to review files or change settings.

What is Bluetooth used for?

Bluetooth assists pairing with Thinkware Dash Cam Link. The camera’s local Wi-Fi connection is used for live view, file access and downloads.

Is GPS included?

No. The external GPS antenna is optional. It enables location and speed data plus supported safety-camera alerts; it does not add remote tracking.

What memory card is included and what is the limit?

The listed package includes a 32GB microSD card with adapter. Supported capacities are 16, 32, 64 and 128GB. Use a compatible card and copy important recordings elsewhere before formatting or changing recording settings.

Can it record without vehicle power?

No. The internal supercapacitor supports safe shutdown; it is not a rechargeable battery for ongoing recording. Driving and parking recording both need an external power source.

How do I save a clip manually?

Briefly press REC to save a one-minute clip: 10 seconds before the button press and 50 seconds after it. Download important footage promptly so it remains available.

What warranty applies?

The new F70 Pro includes a one-year manufacturer warranty.

What else should I check before ordering?

Hardwiring cable, OBD power cable, external GPS antenna and CPL filter are optional and sold separately.

Decent, especially for the price.

Pros: Easy to setup, install app, and start viewing on phone. Small and discrete. Nice daytime video quality for such a small thing. Audio seems clear. So far, camera holds up to the intense heat when parked in the sun.
Cons: Incredibly obnoxious beeping every minute or so: small bumps in the road seem to signal to the camera that an incident has occurred. Night vision not great, not sure how it compares to other dashcams at similar price range. Terrible app. Also need to have the car on to supply power to view any video on phone, or no files appear. Parking mode only available with additional equipment (this is in the handbook I found online, but was not clear before purchasing).

Thanks for the detailed review, Zachary! We’re glad to hear you found the F70 Pro easy to set up and that it’s holding up well in the heat. If you haven’t already tried it, lowering the impact sensitivity in the settings should help reduce those frequent incident alerts.

Not great at night

While daytime recording is clear, it struggles a bit in low-light conditions. Hopefully, updates can improve night vision. Still decent for the price.
