Cellink Battery B Review - Customer Review

Disclaimer: This review is for the first generation Cellink Battery B which has a main battery connection. The current 1.5 gen Cellink B has an ACC only connection and a slightly increased capacity.

The Cellink B is by far the best power supply for dashcams to hit the market today. Most power supply manufacturers make claims that their power supply does far more than what we see in the real world.

There are variables to take into account though which are:

The Cellink B is using LiFePO4 batteries which are the latest in lithium battery technology used in new power supplies. LiFePO4 batteries not only charge in less than a couple of hours but last 3-4 times longer than regular lithium batteries.

My experience with the Cellink B after owning a Lukas LK-530 is as follows:

Due to my driving habits meaning I don’t drive an hour each way every day I found that it was necessary to have a home charger too. I bought a T-Power AC/DC 5 Amp charger that has the ability to charge the Cellink B in less than 2 hours which for me is fantastic. While the Cellink B is on the charger my dashcam runs on the car battery or you might choose to leave it off until the Cellink B is recharged. If I was driving an hour each way a day it wouldn’t be necessary to have a home charger but for me it works best this way. When the warmer weather gets here that might not be necessary as lithium batteries perform much better in warmer weather. I found so far in my testing the Cellink B will supply power to my dashcam for 25-40 hours before requiring a charge either by the alternator in my car or the home charger. Now I use a BlackVue DR600GW-HD so it may drain more or less than other dashcams. My review is solely based on my own experience using the Cellink B.

If you are going to use the cigarette lighter for charging the Cellink B there are a couple of things to think about. One, does your cigarette lighter supply power only when the car is running or all the time. If all the time beware the Cellink B doesn’t drain your car battery as it did with mine. The Cellink B drains 8 amps of power while charging which is far more than a dashcam would draw. The instructions mention using an ACC power source for charging the Cellink B which will only charge when your engine is running and is the best way to avoid a dead car battery. If your cigarette lighter supplies power all the time and your car does not have battery management like most new cars have the Cellink B will drain your car battery over night. You can either pull the power supply out of the cigarette lighter before leaving the car or run a wire from an ACC circuit to the Cellink B to ensure power to the Cellink B is only supplied when the engine is running. I would strongly suggest having the Cellink installed exactly like the manual recommends.

Also it is a good idea to have the optional MAINBATT wire provided in the Cellink B box installed in your car at the fuse box. That thin wire plugs into the Cellink B and monitors the car battery voltage so that after the Cellink B runs out of power it will allow power to the dashcam from your car battery. When the car battery also drops to 12 volts the power to your dashcam will be shut down to preserve your car battery since the Cellink B battery was already drained as well. If you choose not to use that MAINBATT wire to monitor your car battery voltage then either pull the power plug from the cigarette lighter or ensure you are supplying power from an ACC circuit when the engine is running.

Operating and Install Tips

There is a reset button on the front of the Cellink B that is not mentioned in the manual. If for any reason you have an issue with your car that affects the operation of the Cellink B insert a paper clip in the hole on the top of the unit that says RESET until it stops then push gently on the button that is inside the Cellink B. You will hear a short tune that resets the Cellink B and also tells you it has power or is working. Also if you install the Cellink B as per the manual each time you start your car the Cellink B will sound to let you know that it is going into charging mode. By listening to that tone each time you start your car it will let you know the Cellink is working. If you mount your Cellink B under the front seat where you can’t see it having that tone each time you start the car will be helpful. In my case I found the glove box a better option.

Also noted in the manual the power source that you use whether it be a cigarette lighter or dedicated wire from the fuse box should be able to handle 8 amps. I used an add a circuit that plugs into a 30 amp fuse in the fuse box. The actual fuse in the add a circuit is a 10 amp fuse so the Cellink B will not pop that 10 amp fuse nor will the extra 8 amps affect the 30 amp circuit that it is attached to.

Overall Impression

Of all the power supplies on the market for dashcams other than installing another car battery in the trunk of your car the Cellink B is the best choice. It uses the latest in battery technology that not only is fast charging but is also long lasting. For those living in warmer climates once the Cellink B is installed in your car there is nothing for you to worry about. Your car’s battery will no longer be impacted by a dashcam so it should start every day. You can feel confident that your dashcam has the power to record any and all parking mode activity each and every day.
