In the recent years, we started seeing a turn in the Korean dashcam industry. Where it was once dominated by small and sleek devices, dashcams are rapidly becoming bulky, and equipped with various LED lights. Dashcam culture has changed, and have turned in favour of bigger dashcams that offer big LCD displays. While it may still not be readily accepted yet in North America, it is imminent that LCD displays will play a big part in the future of dashcams in the future. Blackvue's own take on this trend comes in the form of the DR750LW-2CH, a huge device that really packs a punch.
The DR750 is quite amazing in what it offers, and in some ways revolutionary. To start off, it is the first dual-channel dashcam to offer Full HD both front and rear in 1080P. The dashcam comes with top-of-the-line specs that you have learned to love from BlackVue, with features like parking mode and WiFi coming standard. The GPS, however, is external and needs to be bought separately.
The star of this dashcam is the LCD display. It is a whopping 4" of screen real-estate, with vivid colours, and has a very intuitive and easy to use touch-screen interface with a Windows 8 influence. By having an LCD display, it makes things very convenient as recordings can be watched immediately through the screen, as well as keeping track of real-time footage. With a touch of the button, you can view the front camera footage, the rear camera footage, or both. Some people have used this to their advantage by using the DR750 as a rear-view backup camera of sorts. Settings can be configured on the fly as well. With the DR750, there is the option to record at Full HD up front and just HD in the back (and vice versa), which is extremely useful.
The DR750 may be a big change for BlackVue users, since it is quite large. Despite that, it is actually a very nice-looking device. In fact, it actually won a Korean award for Design recently. The form factor of the dashcam can be compared to a standard GPS unit, only sleeker. Some people may need time for the device to grow on them, but I am pretty confident it will.
There are some things to critique about the DR750. In my opinion, the addition of WiFi is not necessary. Because there is an LCD display anyways, the use of the WiFI is not necessary at all. Without the WiFi, it can most likely bring down the cost of the device, and make it more affordable. Though the external GPS piece for the DR750 is sleek and elegant, it would be better if it was internal.
